|
|
My missus has a Mio 168 and every now & then it will get knocked in her pocket/bag and turn itself on thus flattening the battery. The problem with this is that it seems to go back to factory default settings when I recharge it. Is there no other backup in this device apart from the main battery?
Is there any software available that can disable the power button and require a button combination to power it up instead, or any other way of combatting this annoying problem?
Thanks

You realy should get a good backup prog like Sprite backup which will restore your PDA back to as it was before you ran the batterys down. |

Hi
Does this happen when the Mio is being used (i.e. when a program is running & the screen is knocked 'wakening it up) or when it is switched off and power button pressed.
I often carry mine in my shirt breast pocket, even in the Mio case the screen would respond to a 'tap' & backlight would come on (only happened when a program such as Memory Map etc. was in use. Can supply link to a free program that will blank screen and a tap will not wake it, it needs a press on the power button to do that.
If your problem is that the power button is getting knocked switching the Mio on then you need to find a case that will prevent that. _________________ If riding in a plane is flying then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the feeling

The Mio usually comes with MIo's e-backup. You could backup using this once in a while. _________________ MioMitac 168 Digiwalker

Also, I would go into the setup and change the settings so that the buttons on the front do not wake the machine up. These are easily knocked in a pocket or bag, and if you don't notice, your battery soon runs down |

Thanks for all the help guys, she has a case but won't use thye bloody thing as she keeps having to take it out to put it in the screen mount. Daft I know, but there we go.
I think a backup will probably be the easiest way to do it. Does the MIO one do everything including installed progs/registry entries etc? So she can just totally restore the thing from a file on the card? |

The easiest way is to set the machine to turn off automaticaly after 1 or 2 minuites if it is not used.
Also disable the buttons on the front which can turn on the machine, they are usually the culprit, not the power button.
Just as previous posters said.
But also when loading programmes put them on the storage card not in main memory, and tell your progs to store data on the card. Data and prorammes on the card are not lost if the battery fails and all can be recovered easily.

I had already disabled the front buttons and set it to switch off after 1 min which is why I didn't mention it above.
I have installed all the stuff to the card, which is all well and good, but you still need the registry entries, programs folder, start menu etc for them to work properly. So, will the backup proggy (either the mio one or a 3rd party one) restore all these things so she can carry on as before? |

The Mio ebackup, and sprite should both back up everything in the Mio memory to the storage card.
I would also suggest backing up the storage card to your PC either using active sync, or with a card reader (which is much easier and faster!) once in a while.
cheers
