I've just driven from Birmingham to Manchester and I have my speed cameras set to alert me if they are on route only.

I received an alert from a close by camera on a different road and a second alert from a camera that didn't exist at all as far as I could see. This happened in the same place on my drive down too.

I have checked all warnings and they are definitely set to alert me on my route only.

Any idea what could be causing these false alarms?

It can happen if the location of a camera is close enough to the Route for the software to assume it is on the Route.

TT creates a 'corridor' of the Route, x yards either side of your position, in which to scan for POI's. This could be on a road that crosses, or a road that runs close and parallel to, the Route.

I see. And I guess this can't be changed?

I would have thought not, especially when you need to factor in the fact that the GPS position isn't going to be totally accurate.

I drove from Manchester to Preston today and i received about 10 fast 'red camera' warnings on the motorway. What I don't understand is there was a vocal announcement but no flashing camera icon on the screen. (They work in real situations).

How is that possible?

Could they be bugs in the database?

Was this on the M61 by any chance, I get three such warnings on that stetch of road, they are legitimate cameras located at the end of the slip roads, or very close to the exit - if you don't get an on screen warning, do you have the red light .BMP loaded on to the PDA/PND, one other possible reason is that you have loaded the spoken voice warnings for the safety cameras and you are using the Traffic alert, the alert for the traffic congestion triggers the same audio warning as the Red Light, so if you are using GPRS and Traffic an alert will audio prompt Red Light (I had this last year until I used POIExtend to shift the warnings around - mike

hi

1) Yes it was on the M61.

2) Yes I have the images installed and they do flash when I approach real red light cameras.

3) I have a TomTom ONE. What's a traffic alert?

Re above....Traffic Alert, i guess you mean the "beep when traffic situation changes". Yes i do have that on and I have changes the prompts to voices.

So I guess this beep users the 'polite 2' sound which just so happens to be the red camera alert. Is that correct?

So to fix I guess I could just turn that traffic alert option off?

Yes that is exactly what I mean, the traffic alert notification comes through and you get a red light camera warning going off on the audio, you can play around with this to get a true red light and traffic alert via POIExtend, if you really need to and if the red light becomes a pain (I got fed up with it) - takes a fair bit of messing around but worth it in the longer term - back up your device though before doing this though - Mike
