Hi All,
I am hoping to get my first TomTom Rider in a couple of weeks, and was wondering if anyone else on here could let me know what they think?
I already know I have less than no chance of mounting it to my bike without using the sticky pads (not ideal), but I'm more interested in the functionality. I've had a look through the forum and noticed a few dissatisfied posts, especially about what you can and can't do while it is in the cradle. Can anyone confirm this?
I look forward to hearing from you all! _________________ Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell is scared I'll take over...

The RIDER is good, IMO, and the only downside is the 'Moving and docked' menu, which restricts access to only a few menu options.
I know you aren't meant to operate GPS etc. when on the move, and not only when on two wheels, so why haven't TomTom chosen to implement this system across the board? If 4 (+) wheelers are given the full range when moving, why aren't two wheelers?
Hopefully, TomTom are listening.
You can actually override this with a piece of sticky tape on one of the contacts. I'm not sure if this prevents the battery from charging, though.
Also, why do you think you won't be able to mount a RIDER on a CBR RR without the sticky pads? _________________ Tim |

Cheers for the info Tim.
I'm also hoping TomTom are listening, and they do seem to be the company that accepts and acts on criticism (or at least I have heard they do), and the tech support is good - even for someone like me who is a mere prospective buyer!
I'd imagine that putting tape over just selected contacts may fool it into thinking it is undocked, while still allowing it to charge, although I'd have to work out which contacts are which.
As for the mounting - the CBR600RR doesn't have round 'handlebars' that can be clamped onto, it has a flat top yoke, which the clamp would not be able to grip to. I even emailed Tech Support and they confirmed that the adhesive method needs to be used with most sportsbikes.
Still, as long as I can find somewhere I can see it, I'm not too fussy. _________________ Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell is scared I'll take over...

My SprintST is the same. I got a mate to make a bracket for me. Look at my avatar. Skippy has a Garmin mounted to his CBR, albeit not an RR. I'm sure there will be a better mounting option than double sticky backed tape for you.
More pics of my mount.

Nice attachment Tim, looks good.... I'll have to have a look and see if it's possible to do something similar on mine... There isn't much space to play with on the new RR's, and I don't really want to restrict the view to the digital dash readout (cos I hate exceeding the speed limit y'see..... hehe)

It shares the ONE internals, but has a waterproof case and no loudspeaker. Communication is via Bluetooth. _________________ Tim |

I am happy with my TomTom rider, the only gripe I have is, I bought it as soon as it came out and now it is £120 cheaper. Well can't help it |

All sorts. Two trip counters, digital clock, Trip computer (Average speed, mpg, etc), instantaneous mpg (my car Manual says it does this as well, but they lied!), top speed 8O , and stuff like that. _________________ Tim |
