I've heard that Nuvi's bateries are NOT replacable.
How long are they supposed to last?I am a bit worried about it.Any sugestions?

i'd guess a few years at least. lithium-ion are pretty darn good. ipod's had a similar problem with batteries refusing to charge after a couple of years and, afaik, there are companies that will open up the units and change the batteries (obviously out of warranty!). in a few years i suspect you'll want the new improved nuvi 9000 with automatic traffic light sensor to ensure your route goes even smoother... ;)

The same horror stories came out about the iPod.
It depends how you use it. Batteries wear out when they have been fully charged and discharged a certain number of times. If you use your Nuvi on batteries every day and recharge it every day then it will probably last a few years. If you mostly use it powered from the car then it will last much longer because the battery is not being charged/discharged all the time.
Give it a couple of years and someone will come up with a DIY way of replacing the battery if it's a problem anyway. Also, Garmin have a history of doing fixed price repairs to their GPS units at a reasonable price too.

the i3 works on the car power supply with no batteries in it so i assume the nuvi would to......

My Quest has an internal rechargable battery and if you run it flat then you can plug it into the car kit it will switch on and start charging.
I imagine the Nuvi is the same.

FWIW - I've had my Nuvi 350 for a month now and love it. The battery will run the unit for about 6-7 hours without a power source...
Sweden, Benelux and Germany so far are great with it.

have not had to charge the nuvi300 since initial charge yet - ao about 6 hours so far - getting low now though! i love the nuvi, shame i only have it for review purposes... |
