Posted: Thu Jan 19, 2006 6:34 pm Post subject: I Have broke my I3 loading POI. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
|
It has the latest firmware and V8 map.
I loaded just the speed camera POI and thet worked fine but I also wanted other POI like Argos etc. I combined two databases together with a total size of (2.12MB(3.82MB size on disk)).
I loaded this up using POI loader but when I tryed to access the custom points the I3 froze. I did a system reset but this didn't help. I also tried to reload just the Speed camara POI but this just keeps reseting the unit.
I can only asume I have a currupt file or there is a max POI size that I can load.
Is there any way I can delete the POI file?
I have rung Garmin and they have suggested that I return the unit for repair but I would like to try and sort it out myself if possible
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I don't have a transflash reader. I do have an sd reader but you don't seem to be able to buy the transflash to SD adapters(in this country anyway). they only come with a transflash card and garmin don't supply this with the unit. |

Wow, that's about 60,000 poi addresses, no wonder it froze.
Have you done a FULL reset, with the unit OFF then press:
Left key - Wheel - Right key - ALL at the same time.
If that fails, you could try connecting to the web and although you say you have the latest firmware you could try re-installing it, that just may reset it's operating system.
Then try just a couple of poi's to see if it works. |

The POIs are held on the TransFlash (which incidently has about 100MB free, so 2MB of POI shouldn't be a problem) - take the card out and see if your i3 will start up with just the base maps. |

I have tried a full reset but no joy.(reset does not remove POI).I tried to load only a few working POI files hower PIO loader gives an error message that it can't connect as unit resets itself prematurely I also removed the card and it would let me reinstall 2.7 but still no joy on reboot. They only way I can see to fix this is to try and delete the POI off the card but I can't read it.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Sounds like you need someone with a TransFlash card reader - whereabouts in the UK are you? |

Can't you just connect up to your PC, run the poiloader with a blank CSV, clear them and start again? |

Bought one of these Moby card readers as it was great value. Does not work! Windows does not recognise it and you cannot find or download any drivers that make it work.
Had a look on the Moby forum and several people a while ago with the same problem, but no answers from anybody. Send e-mail to Mody Technical support and await their reply.
As this was a hot topic, anybody else done the same and had a problem with XP Home?? |
Mine works just fine, are you sure that you are pushing the card ALL the way into the holder. |

I bought one of these from mobymemory and it worked ok with Xp . I used it to back up the card from the i3 and then disconnected it using "safely remove hardware" . The next time I plugged it in I got the "USB Device Not Recognized" message. I tried it on 2 other computers with XP and got the same error message.I will be interested in the reply from the company to the previous posters question to them .

I have just tried to use mine again - IT WILL NOT WORK NOW - worked when I first got it.
It shown as a Drive on my Win XP system, but as soon as I put the card in to it the led just flashes, and my PC just freezes. Have tried putting the card in first, but this makes no difference, led again just flashes and then I cannot click on anything that will work on my desktop including Ctrl-Alt_Del.
My mate has a TransFlash/SC card adapter which I have now tried with the same TransFlash card and it works OK on my PC, so it must be these Mobymemory readers that are at fault. |
