|
|
I am new to GPS and need some help please. I have ordered a Garmin Quest and have been told that the order will be held back until V8 is available in January. That is OK by me but I have two questions.
i) I assume that the only difference between V7 & V8 will be more up to date maps. Is this correct?
ii) Is Garmin Quest V8 the same as Garmin Quest 2 or are they two different products?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

v8 is an updated version of the maps. I think it may also allow full postcode searches on some GPS units - not the Quest 1 though
The Quest 2 is different to the Quest 1 (the original Quest).
It has all of the European maps preloaded so you don't have to load the ones you want to use. It does POI alerts (ie for Speed Cameras). It does full postcode searches
The only real advantage of the Quest 1 is that it comes with a CD with all of the Europe maps on it so you can plan routes, edit waypoints and view tracklogs on your PC. As far as I know you can't do this on the Quest 2 because it comes with the maps preloaded rather than on CD.
I don't know why your supplier says to wait for the v8 Quest. You shouldn't have to wait, just buy one (it will probably come with v6 or maybe v7 maps) and Garmin should send you a free upgrade to v8. Double check this with Garmin though.
My Quest came with v6 and I got a free upgrade to v7. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Thanks, that's very helpful. What I don't know now is wether I have ordered Quest 1 or Quest 2! |

Quest 1 is about £330, not sure about the price for the Quest 2 - £400 or more. _________________ Gone fishing! |

That's it then, I paid 296.99 so it must be the Quest 1.
I know it's a bit late but are there any reports that you know of? |

Check out the Quest forum !
More than likely they are out of stock of them rather than "waiting" for V8 maps 8O
I bought mine this summer around 6 months after V7 was released and it still came with V6 maps. I am waiting for V8 for my free upgrade! |
