I thinking of this unit myself for use in the car and on the bike.
It seems to work well - see the motorcycle forum just above this one.
A handlebar mount is now available, a freezer bag takes care of the waterproofing (although long term a silicon cover is bound to become available) so it's just the audio problem left to solve if you want to hear the directions.
Rather than wires would the following work?
Attach a 'car baby' to the I3 and then use a mini personal FM radio to pick up the transmission and into an ear piece.
Both could be had on ebay for about £10 all in.
