Hi, can some one please help with this
question . after I have removed the the SD card
from my ipaq and then put it back, I have lost
some of my settings ie. Home address. The voices
for the speed cameras.,So I have to then set these
up again, is this normal…. This is my setup HP ipaq
RX3715.. 256 mb card .. TomTom 5
if nobody answer this query does it mean nobody nows the answer to the problem ?
Well I certainly don't know the answer, but I can confirm that it doesn't happen to me when I remove my SD card. I wonder if it makes a difference if you remove the card whilst PDA is powered on? _________________ Regards

Thanks for getting back to me, I always make sure that the PDA is powered off, (after it happend the first time) but this is what happens as i take the SD card out, the PDA turn its self on. The same thing happens when putting the card back in, its off but as the card goes in the PDA come on. Is this normal, should that happen,
Have also look at that link thanks.
Should there be a copy of the conf file for TT on the PDA as well as on the sd storage card, my conf file is on the sd card.
Its all a bit of a pain because i do need to swap cards now and again.

It should be in the Map Folder, because ther information it contains is Map specific.
If you have a Plus Map and a Standard Map and you want the same information with each map, just Copy/Paste it over. _________________ Richard

Hi Lewis,
I don't know about Ipaqs, but it seems that Windows PPC can become "confused" if you change cards when the PPC is switched OFF. My Mio558 has an "intelligent" power manager application which has tick-boxes to select auto power-on whenever a card is removed or inserted, and the default is "enabled". But my Acer N30 doesn't seem to have any similar option, so now I normally switch it ON between removing one card and replacing another.
However, the "forgetfulness" of Tom Tom is said to be a bug in TT5, although the bugs seem to be somewhat machine-dependent. My Acer has been "forgetful" on occasions, but the Mio's forte is to sometimes completely freeze the map scrolling whilst navigating, even though the voice prompts continue as normal !
It's certainly worth keeping a recent copy of the .cfg file somewhere convenient on your PPC or flash card. Then if TT is "forgetful" you can just copy the file back across into the map folder.
If you want to make sure that TT doesn't forget its settings for an important journey (i.e. S*ds Law) then you can temporarily write-protect the .cfg file (using an application such as Tascal Explorer), or just slide the switch on the SD card.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the reply, I was a bit worred about inserting and removing
the SD card with the iPAQ on, but after reading what you said I have
changed the card with it ON a few times and it all seems to be ok.
So then I changed the card with the iPAQ OFF.... guess what, it was still
all ok. so perhaps it is nothing to do with changing the SD card thats
messing up the .cfg file. Sounds like its this `bug` in TT5 that going to rise
its ugly head now and again to make my .cfg file forget . I will now,
as you say keep a copy of the .cfg file on my Pc and laptop, because I
know this will happen again, but with you tip I will not have spend time
in-putting all the personal info.
