I have purchased a 256 Mb Kingston 40X SD Card and after downloading a backup from The Tom Tom ONE, proceeded to copy the files over to the new card. All the files were transferred, but after putting the new card in the Tom Tom, It appeared to reject it....

I contacted TT Suport over this and they suggested the following:- "Can you please ensure that your card is set to the adequate read speed. Please can you ensure that it is set to around 10MB/SEC. This is important for reading the map data from the card".
Now, can anyone tell me how you set the read speed on these cards?!!!
Thanks M.

Hemlock - I think what they mean is that you need to use a card that can be read at 10MB/sec. i.e. you need to use a 66x card, your 40x card may not be fast enough and that's why it's being rejected. As far as I know you can't alter the read/write speed.

Frazz,
Thanks for that. My Memory are upgrading my card to 60X as a replacement, so I'll give that a whirl, I guess I'll have to try a faster one if that doesn't work. I couldn't see any other way of speeding a card up either.

If an Sd Card reading at 40x wont work then how come a bog standard SD card of which I have 2 work ok, also what is the read speed of a standard card.
Seems to me that your 40x card may be faulty or that some files are missing. _________________ TTG 300,External Aerial

Can't see how any files were missing. Have just loaded up the TT1 with the original back-up files, together with safety camera POI's on the original card, no problems. Also the 'faulty' card worked fine when I was uploading/downloading image files using my camera!

I am not sure what all the fuss about 40x ,60x speed rated cards is all about, I use standard SD cards which as far as I am aware do not have a speed rating and work just fine.
As for why your card does not work is a mystery.
I did have a few problems formatting a card under Win XP so decided to format the card in my camera, after that not problems at all. _________________ TTG 300,External Aerial

Hi,
Buffy Beagle posted that he is charging his TT One with an iPod and an iRiver charger. How are the two connected?
I have an iPod 4G charger and want to charge the tomtom one with it. What cable do I use?
The TomTom has a mini usb port and a 5v power plug and the iPod charger has a firewire output to a proprietary iPod connector.
How can the two go together - apologies if I'm being dumb here.
Cheers. |

TomTom does not use the USB port for charging. There is a separate socket that takes 5 volts. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

You may not need to buy a new mains-adaptor. We are using iRiver and iPod chargers for our TomTomOne.

I understand, thank you for your responce but my question remains - regarding the above quoted post. If indeed the TT1 only charges by the 5v socket as I imagined it did - how does an iPod or iRiver charger connect to it?
Cheers,

Because the Iriver uses the same 5v adaptor and socet as the ONE
Personally I am using a Sony PSP Charger with my ONE again same voltage and socket, |

Tony sent us a PM about this and Hugh's reply (which I have pasted into this reply) is still sitting in the private message outbox . . . we assumed it would be sent automatically as we can't see a Send 'button' . . . previous replies to PMs seem to have left the outbox automatically. Buffy :0)
Hello Tony,
I'm afraid I've no idea whether the TomTom ONE can be charged via its USB socket. The only device we have with a battery that I know can be charged via USB is the iRiver.
What we are using for charging the TomTom One is the mains charger which came with the iRiver. This plugs into a socket on the iRiver similar or identical to the 5v socket on the TomTom One. We've always been cautious about using one device's charger for another device, but after speaking to our local electrical shop we decided that provided voltage (5v), polarity (positive centre), and current (2 amps) were compatible, and provided the plug fitted the socket we couldn't cause any damage!
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Buffy, its just with you specifically mentioning the iPod charger I wondered if I was missing something.
So what you mean is that you don't use an iPod charger like you said but just an iRiver one?
I seem to remember an old GameGear I have lying around somewhere with a 5v charger and a plug that looks pretty close to the TT's! What you are saying is that the charger needs to be:
1) Voltage (5v)
2) Polarity (Positive Centre) - how can you tell this? Which symbol?
3) Current (2 Amps)
Anything outside this is too risky? Obviously I'm not going to try anything massively outside this but aren't all 5v chargers pretty similar? Feel free to shoot down my near total lack of electrical knowledge!
All the best,
Tony |
