|
|
New to all this Sat Nav stuff .. bought at Navman 510 on impulse - from Tesco .... stupid thing was useless .. then discovered my Peugeot 307 windscreen may be the issue .... got money back and went for Navman 520 from PC World - kept crashing and not working ... went wild when I read on this forum about the TT ONE and then saw the Argos offer .... have had mine for a few days now and love it !!! Works perfectly with windscreen - normally have 4 bars (full reception) showing even last night when rain was falling in buckets.
Have added some new voice skins and Safety camera POI's. Love the touch screen and variuos options. Much more fun to sue than the Navman. The sound seems fine to me - but I have nthing to compare to I guess. Am going to upgrade my phone to Bluetooth and try out the update functions.
Word of warning - locally lots of SatNavs stolen from cars (for Christmas prezzies I suspect) so watch out !
All in all beautlfully packaged ... easy to set up and easy to add POI's voice skins (off da net) clear screen .... might want to upgrade memory card ... one point to note the CD rom sets up a back up folder named GO and 100 and it put my backup file in the GO folder !!!! anyone else have this issue ?

How many poi's can you put in the tomtom one ?, I seem to be stuck at about 80.
Any good sites for poi's would be appreciated.
I have bought the safety camera poi from tomtom, was this a dear mistake , are the free one as good ?
Newbie, sorry if I am going over ground that has been covered.
Cheers Esher |

|

I bought from a specialist, a sponsor no less and what a disaster. My system was Tom Tom 5, Ipaq 3715 and a powered cradle. The cradle blew the Ipaq up. Sent back at my expense. New ipaq and cradle returned two weeks later. Power lead kept falling out of the cradle and it took two weeks to get another activation code for the Software. ThinkNavi free sent out to replace cradle - looks great but what a heap of useless plastic. I have had to get trading standards and my credit card company involved as the specialist has taken 3 months so far and still have not sorted this out. At least you can rant at a shop manager when the product is so obviously defective.
I agree that people should be wary when buying from the internet just for this reason. This is the worst customer service that I have ever received. I have my own internet based business and I offer an unconditional 100% money back guarentee backed up by the manufacturer's. At the moment the SatNav retailer market in the UK seems to have little choice and because of this maybe there is a complacent attitude to customer service or the need to establish loyal and repeat customers.
How hard is it to sort out a hardware problem on a PDA based SatNav system? |

First, thanks for advice and experience feedback about the possible problem of using the TT ONE without external antenna in cars like my Peugeot 53 reg 307SW with an athermic windscreen. Based on the encouraging posts I bought a TT ONE today (from Argos at £224 but with £10 voucher for any further purchase of any item). As reported, Argos would not give 16 day money back. Fortunately the unit readily maintained a fix in this car during a country journey. Phew!
May I suggest that if all of us TT ONE users post feedback to Pocket GPS World with details of success or otherwise, a Forum bigwig might compile an easy to access list of vehicle types, age (reg), and GPS fix result, for the benefit of potential new buyers?
Second, my unit is loaded with 5.410 of the software on the SD card. The Tom Tom website today says there is an update to 5.420 November 2005. Has anyone downloaded this version and updated a SD card? Is this better than 5.410 and stable? If so, what is the best procedure for doing this please? I have backed up the supplied SD card to a PC, and I am considering the download to use to update a new 512 MB card.
Third, has anyone used a high speed SD card like the Kingston Elite Pro and the Viking High Speed in this unit instead of a standard speed SD car? What were the results? |

Hi,
I managed to get my hands on a tt one today, very nice impressive.
Been playing with my new gizmo like a kid at xmas all day. Susing out the basic features before i jump into the other stuff.
Tested it out on a routine drive today, will give it a good go tommorow.
I have a question infact many but just a few for now ..
why are the number of POI's limited?
Also I want to grab a larger sd card a 1 gig just incase I need it and keep the original card it comes with as a backup along with the backup I made on computer, burnt it to a cd for safe keeping should something go wrong I can start from scratch.
I went over the link from sgould and had a look at the range from kingston who seem to have a great reputation. Is the 1 gig over the top would a 512 suffice? Taking into account the growing number of things to put onto it, more and more safety cameras poi's etc (of which I do not know how much memory they require) so thought worth asking.
The 512 sd card from kingston there has 30 % off. Also bit confused I read sd card come in different speeds which speed do I need?
Cheers |

|
|
Can any one hgelp me with this one ... with the Navman you got an actual output of the road you were in alongwith the house number .... e.g. 23, any street etc. Which was good where you did not know the actual address and there were no numbers on the houses !!
I don't seem to be able to get this level of info from the TT one ?
Not sure about teh SD question - however I have already filled mine with some extra POI's and 2 new voices !!! So suspect I will have to go down the new SD card road pretty sooon.
Still lovin my TT one |

|
|
Have just upgraded to latesy software version to my TT one. No problems !
Download file from TT website. Unzip it ... connect TT (make sure TT CD rom is not in the drive) click on the exe file and done in seconds !
Not noticed any amazing improvements - seem mainly to relate to TT traffic updates.
Still - no hassles worked ... all POI's I added etc. still maintained.
Hope this is of use ? |

The are two parts to TomTom software - maps and application.
Application update is free and can be downloaded from TT website. Maps are not free and are sold
a) from TT website (download)
b) on standalone SD cards
c) on a set of CDs with maps of Western Europe or USA
All maps come with software code. This code and your device ID will allow you to get the activation code from www.ttcode.com.
You can use a higher capacity SD card to hold more maps. |

Eldar has covered all the issues I think !
I use cigg power when i nthe car and purchased a DC adaptor from Argus £10.00 so I can charged inside the house. The upgrade fitted onto the SD card fine.
Out and about today - no problems and maintained all four bars of recpetion with lock on within seconds .... not like my Navman - record was 2 hours !!! |

Has anyone any information on how I can get the "GATSO 30", "GATSO 40" warning voices on my TT one? I had them on the TT 300 I had and have tried copying the same data.chk file I used on my TT 300 but the TT One just locked up and said it was waiting for a GPS signal - in German ! |

Hi
Is their another way to bring up the slash screen without taking the memory card out, restarting, switch off, put memory card back in, restart again on the ONE? |

I took my garmin i3 back to Argos no problem under 16 return, because the routing was absolutely awful, i have a TT1 reserved at Stoke Festival Park tomorrow and look forward to trying it out. i used Tom Tom on a PDA for 2 years and found the routing superb, how this is as good |
