Hi new to the board and sat nav, this is my first post.
I've been following this thread religiously, all very interesting.
What I'm wondering is should I rush out and grab a tomtom one from argos at a very fair price or hold on to a hope that it may be cheaper in the new year? I could wait up to feburary before I would need one or do you reckon I should get myself down to argos pronto and get one.
I've deceded on the one after reading the review and from various posts on the board. Everything I need and more, why buy another one for with features I don't need.
I take it you dont get a ac adapter with or or a usb cable so those would be extras right, I saw them for sale on the halfords page on about £30 in total for them.
Using the usb is this the way I would go about adding the safety camera poi from the site onto the one? Still a bit confused on doing it in theory (might help if I had a one to do it on )
cheers |

The USB-cable is in the box.
You dont get a mains-adaptor, - but you need that only if you need to charge indoor. _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

If you can still find one in stock, I'd rush out and get one. At least 6 people in our office bought one today...

No AC adaptor but it comes with a USB cable. I'm not sure an AC adaptor is essential - just charge it in the car. You might want to get a case - that's an optional extra.
Regards,
Mark. |

cheers for the quick replies.
Ahh so the usb cable is in the box.
Well during lunch tommorow I'll dash out and get a TT ONE.
The next step from there is bringing myself up to speed with all this 3rd party software (useless at tech stuff but giving it a go, have no idea what mnu file is). Spent all evening going though posts backdated.
Trying to sus out this poi capture and getting sounds from the ONE when I get near a safety camera or anything else in "my" poi.
So far I gather I don't get an upgrade of the firmware from the tomtom site as will be using software that reuires it as it is something about the sdk (goes way above my head) I need a ficko's guide on doing all this .
well one step at a time, no doubt I'll be pestering you all soon. |

There are two separate bits of the camera stuff.
1. The camera download which works on all the GOs whatever version of the system software.
2. The PoI capture software which uses the SDK (Software developer kit). This only works ( at the moment) with its own version 5.202.
You can put all the camera warnings on any GO. You only need the SDK v5.202 and the Capture stuff if you want to report any new or wrong camera positions back to PGPSW.
Just load the cameras for now. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

BUT don't do anything AT ALL until you have copied a full backup of the SD card to your PC. If things go wrong with upgrades or camera installs, you will need the backup.
Space is tight on the SD card. You may want to buy a blank 256 card to copy your original to and use as a working copy. Or make some space by removing unneeded foreign voices. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

ok starting to understand this more.
So first things first make a backup up ... logical will do that.
Now adviseable to get another card.
Where can I find a sd card? for use with the tt one
now I gather the camera one is all the reported saftey cameras over the uk and the poi capture one is where you add them to your system yourself when you come across one then report it in for it to be added to the database.
Tweety: wouldn't mind buying 20 to sell I think I'll just about afford the one |

You may not need to buy a new mains-adaptor. We are using iRiver and iPaq chargers for our TomTomOne.

You can get SD cards on-line from the likes of ebuyer, mymemory or any of the camera sellers. Or in computer/camera shops - Tesco do them. But online is cheaper. Some very slow cards don't work on the GO. A list, of sorts, is here _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

forgot to ask,
So My sd card stores all the map details right?
Does it store all this camera stuff too? also if I want to get voice warnings I gether it stores that too and say I want nice pictures .bmp files etc it stores that
so what size sd card would be reccomended if I'm to store all this data and turn into a tinkerer
I wont b e getting any other maps just the uk one is all I need, and I guess the this poi capture stuff and camera one ... and that sort of thing (obviously not quite sure what I'm talking about here ) |

Funnily enough I had a look at that very model but wasn't sure it gave me enough information to be sure it would be compatible. An electrician friend gave us the confidence to use the iRiver and iPod chargers. Haven't blown up the ONE yet!!
