I just installed the 5.21 update and noticed that in the list of software to be installed showed the following two items:
TomTom Navigator
TomTom
I am not sure what "TomTom" is, or if this is a complete list, or if I have downloaded a corrupt update. Has anyone else had this, please? _________________ Dell Axims X50v & X30 (both WM 2003 2nd Edition). Copilot BTGPS3 and Fortuna Clip-on BT receivers. Jabra BT 250 audio headsets. I got that too. There seems to be a "TomTom TomTom" folder created. No idea why. |

Someone cleverer than me will tell you why, but I am pretty sure you need the blank tomtom file to ensure that the 7 digit postcode search works correctly...I have it on mine also. |

Thanks for that, guys.
It sounds like it has been included so that it inserts the empty folder that is, as you say, needed for the postcodes, and the lack of which has caused so many headaches. _________________ Dell Axims X50v & X30 (both WM 2003 2nd Edition). Yes, thank you, the mount is working nicely in my car...
Of course landscape is slower. I explained that in a different thread already. _________________ Lutz

I have considered trying out the landscape mode but have been put off because it means putting strain on the PPC's power adapter - as the power cord has to come in at right angles to the PPC.
I just wondered, have those who use landscape a lot found a practical solution to this problem? _________________ Dell Axims X50v & X30 (both WM 2003 2nd Edition). The 'TomTom' option which is selected by default creates the empty 'TomTom' folder on the storage card which is required for PostCodes to function.
The omission of this in some earlier versions caused a lot of complaints hence the option hedre. If it exists already then it will make no difference. _________________ Darren Griffin |

In the discussion about landscape and portrait mode, nobody has mentioned that in landscape the print is much larger - speed, ETA, etc. For me this is a big plus as I can read the info much more quickly

All of which are PocketPC Phone Edition devices (except the Treo) rather than Smartphones. The codebase for the different screen resolutions and lack of touch screen UI's still necessitate a lot of specific code which means unnecessary bloat if they were to merge the products. _________________ Darren Griffin |

This is not the right forum but it is worth mentioning that Mapopolis are already doing this - their code base is the same for Smartphone and Pocket PCs.
The Smartphone doesn't have a touch screen? So what? Simply add menu options that acn accomplish the same task via the soft buttons, menus etc.
When you run Mapopolis Smartphone on a Pocket PC you can actually use the touchscreen...
I would agree that in the not too distant future these devices will merge. The addition of the soft keys in WM5 is a very telling indicator. _________________ Lutz

The Treos are no longer supported by Tom Tom, they are missing from the compatability list. _________________ Skoda Columbus and for emergencies: TomTom + iPhone 4 & TomTom car kit |

So other than the two things listed on the TT site, what does this patch actually do? Have they really made us wait this long and still done nothing to address the performance and navigation problems introduced in TT5 that were not in TT4? The last thing I want is an application bloated to support more devices when it doesn't work properly on the ones it was originally designed for. |
