|
|
Has anyone actually found new included roads streets when using CPL6 ?
I have not despite reporting my area prior as missing info THREE years overdue.
Still not updated
Major resort
114 Golf Courses within 50SQ Mile area
Internationalk Televised tournaments
Royual Polo Field
22 new people move here every day
Internationally recognized Travel Destination.
RV Parks galore
And on and on.
6 million tourists per year to greater Palm Springs area Explosive Development for two years now and no upddated maps ???
My own home address, three years postal code, mapped in IGuidance from last year but not here when supposedly updated till september 2005 ???
The claim they only add whats reported by gobermental agencys is invalid as other porograms have it, and they for sure do not have the funds to map them by themselves either.
This post is ONLY inregards to New MAp detail please, I have not yet used the new program in actual driving mode, I just looked at the maps !! |

If palm Springs USA, don't ALK do their own maps rather than buy them in from Navteq?
If this is confirmed as the case, perhaps comments about mapping should be segregated by Map sets so as not to confuse people. |

I have installed CP Live 6 and have found that the maps are uppdated from the ones in CP Live 5. I have found a coiple of new roads in my area are included which were not previously there.

Sounds like Navteq may be more up-to-date than ALK in updating roads. But then Navteq probably have a much bigger customer base, and maps are their business. _________________ Ian

I do not believe that ALK does their own maps, i had been told that they too wait for local goverments to issue updated maps etc..
IF they did, than I really am disapointed cause they could EASILY update maps with patches |

You are of course free to BELIEVE what you like, but be warned, some of the people giving this information are far more knowledgable then either you or me. Some even have close links with the company and KNOW. |

I don't think any company will bring updated maps with patches as if they did no one would buy the upgrade as most people upgrade for the later maps |

I seem to remember that Navteq won't allow new maps to be released as part of a patch; only within a product upgrade. Navteq would presumably expect another licence fee for upgraded maps. _________________ Ian

Guys,
my point isd this.
Streets for three years in existance, how long does it take to get into GPS maps ?
I dont care what provider they use, I need updated maps, or the GPS itself is useless.
As mentioned, i have IGuidance, which has the area ilive in Mapped, bought a year alomst ago.....this doesnt make sense if ALK says all updated maps till september 2005 and my info is not included but other Mapping companies have em .
That is all i am saying. |

With Navteq, you submit errors directly to them, and not to ALK. Maybe you should find out who the map provider is for your country, because maybe they use the same way of recording errors. _________________ Ian

Wel,
I think, it is not the eoor that i am concerned about but the LACK of updated mapping, I do not understand why less expasive programs have this info.
There are lots of features that Copilot has over others, that i sawe, but that is another thread.
I am questioning the Map update claim ! |

The maps are only as accurate, or up-to-date as the version of the maps which was used when that release was initially produced.
Bearing in mind that changes on the ground (which are usually physically checked by whoever produces the maps) can easily take 6-18 months to be reflected in the mapping, and that even when initially released, the maps in any particular software can easily be 6 month old, you get some kind of idea how 'dated' they can be.
Looking at the Navteq section of this forum will give you more of an insight into the procedures followed, and the problems mapping companies have. While not all areas use navteq maps, the methode used by other companies ar eprobably very similar. |
