I 'think' I have finally decided which model of PDA to buy. I have settled on the HP iPAQ 4150. I was looking on totalpda, and they do a refurbished model of this for £222. Is this a good buy?

Then I aim to find a bluetooth GPS adapter, probably from ebay. I will then buy TomTom to go on it. I already have an SD card.

I decided to go for that model as it has WLAN, and I can make good use of that at home and in the office.

so, does that look a good option for a 1st time buyer?

I've had a 4150 since just after they came out. It's a great PDA, very compact and the dual wireless is convenient. Perhaps a little under-powered compared to the latest models, but I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. My only one concern for GPS is that the speaker might be a bit quiet depending on how noisy your car is!

Yeah i used to have a 4150 and like it both Bluetooth and Wifi and i was happy with it. The speaker was not bad it was louder than the iPAQ 5550 range etc, it really all depends on the car. The PDA is now end of life due to the newer range of iPAQ's available.

ok, thanks for the feedback guys. A bit worried about the speaker issue since I have a Golf TDi so its probably noiser than a lot of cards :p

I know its at the end of its line, but it looks good value to me (as a 1st time product), so think I will still go for it. Are there any comparible products or somthing else that you would recommend ahead of it in the same price bracket?

Also, is there anything I need to be aware of when hunting out a GPS adapter?

I should have pointed out that I haven't actually used my 4150 for GPS, so you might find the speaker is fine in your Golf. I just drive a particularly noisy car!

I can't really recommend another PDA as I kinda lost interest in that whole area after getting a Tablet PC. And I'm just about to buy an all-in-one sat-nav (Garmin Nuvi) rather than use the ipaq.
