|
|
Hi there - first post!
Been searching this site for help with USB driver installation, but without success. I've tried everything: the correct procedure using the CD-ROM just doesn't work, nor does any workaround (I'm reasonably technically/IT competent).
Anyone think of why the USB drivers just won't install? The folder for Garmin appears in C:\, all the files appear to be there, I can point the Add Hardware wizard at these files, but after quickly searching WINDOWS\System32\Drivers, it just says device cannot be installed correctly.
Do I have faulty i3?
Cheers! |

right click on my computer
pick properties pick hardware
pick device manager
look for any device class ie a red sight then click on it and update drivers that works most time with this sort of thing |

Followed you all the way up to this bit above, then couldn't figure out what you meant!
Device class? You mean one of the device type categories, yes? A 'red sight'? Not sure what one of those is, sorry!
When I have the Garmin i3 plugged into the USB, I can see it in Device Manager. But any attempt to update drivers is met with a dialog box telling me that's a no go - that the device will be uninstalled following the next restart.
Any other tips? (Thanks for replying to this one, by the way :D ) |

Yep, tried that, too!
This is crazy. I've never had a single driver fail to install on my PC before ... |

Yep, several reboots, still no joy.
Can't even run the autoupdater thingy, as it doesn't recognise the i3 without the USB drivers installed!
This is maddening!!!! |

No device clashes showing up. It must be either a software problem or an issue with the innards of the device. |

Hi shadowritten
Could you explain exactly what is happening?
What are you trying to do exactly?
Have you installed the Garmin poi loader? |

Hi there
When I try to install the USB drivers - either from the supplied CD or downloaded from the Garmin site - I get as far as the Found New Hardware wizard, at which point I select the Automatic install (or try to search for drivers manually - makes no difference which route I choose), I get a screen telling me the PC is looking for drivers, then an error message says that the device drivers can't be properly installed. At which point, I click Finish, and the whole process begins over until I disconnect the i3 from the USB cable.
I tried to download the Webupdater from the Garmin site. It installed - but without the USB drivers working correctly and recognising the i3, the Webupdater can't see the device. Odd thing is, the Garmin drivers folder is there in C:\ ... so what am I doing wrong?
I haven't tried to download and install the POI loader yet. Does this have a bearing on the USB driver installation? |

Yeah, this I know.
I downloaded AND installed (or so I thought, perhaps?) the USB drivers from the Garmin Website. Plugged in the i3 - no joy! I inserted and ran the supplied CD ... it actually ASKED me to plug in and power up the i3 BEFORE drivers could be installed! So this I tried, and again, nothing.
I've lodged a technical enquiry on the Garmin site. If I get an answer, I'll post it here in case anyone else faces the same issues.
My thanks to everyone who's tried to help so far. |

Yes it should make a differerence as i believe this installs the driver and then your i3 will be found. |
