I take your point dave but if they've got many users complaining of certain problems (usually reception & routing problems in navman's case) Can they not tell us that they are looking into it either directly or via yourselves. I think that most people are annoyed that there is no indication whether these problems are even being looked at.

Telboy, the reason why most companies make it a policy not to reply in public forums is that most of the time when they have happy customers, they won't hear a dicky bird from them, but when they'res problems, it can turn into a lynch mob. People can then get quite angry at the company and before you know you have a mini world war 3 on your hands. Also companies don't like to air their dirty laundry in public where other competitors can see their flaw and raise above them. It's a shame, but that's how it works. I know for a fact that all of the companies we review products on read our forums, some on a daily basis, some on a weekly basis, because we will receive emails saying things like "Hmm, not sure about this post", or "we have a problem here, several members have posted problems and we're looking into it". I can't count how many times I've had a call on my mobile from companies commenting on forum posts, it's certainly a large number!
So unfortunately you won't see a lot of companies posting in forums, but they will be reading your posts and taking information back to management or support meetings.
