Like some other people here, I've copied the OV2 and BMP files into the Great-Britain_Map folder on Navigator 5 but they don't appear in the POI list. I've reset the device.

How many POI categories have you added? There is a limit of 40. _________________ Richard

I have an original, purchased copy, it has 43 POI's as standard and the camera databases aren't listed. I've copied them into the Great-Britain_map folder. |

Any ideas anyone about the safety camera database not working? It is worth pointing out that the 6-digit postcode database (from the original SD card) won't work either.
Could it be because I'm using WindowsMobile5?

Hello all, great site BTW.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact and have installed TTN 5, no problems.
I have now added the five speed camera databases into the GB Map folder and they have been enabled in POI, so far so good.
My problem is that the software now runs all jerky when navigating.
Before, it was super smooth but now just jerky, it returns to super smooth once i disable the POI's. It's driving me nuts............help ! ! !
This never happened to me with TTN 3.
Additional info that may help:
No other programmes are running.
using blue tooth tom-tom gprs receiver.
It's jerky in demo mode too.
Hope you can help, cheers in advance. |

Generally it's better to use Warn When Near, rather than Enabling. Also are you using the latest version of V5.xxx? _________________ Richard

The reason that there are so many (unanswered?) posts here saying ' I have followed the instructions, but it doesn't work' is because the instructions miss out one key step. They should read:
-----------------------------------------------------
The POI files are now successfully copied to this folder. You are ready to use your new POIs in TomTom Navigator 5.
Step 5. Display POIs in TomTom Navigator 5
MISSED STEP:
change preferences...manage POI....Add POI (you will now see the Speed Camera db to add - this will add it to the list of categories for the step below)
Finally, to enable POIs in TomTom Navigator 5, start TomTom Navigator 5 and select the POIs in your POI categories:
Change Preferences | Manage (or Maintain) POI | Enable / Disable POI
Select POI
-------------------------------------- |

?? ... This step will add an additional POI to an existing POI category.
TTN lists all the categories it finds in the Map Folder, subject to the maximum limit.

-------------------------------------- |
If you use this step to Enable the POI categories there is a tendency for the Map Display while Navigating to be jerky.
Much better to use Warn When Near when Navigating.
If you want to see the POI's in Browse Map, use Options > POI > Select POI, then Un-Select it again afterwards. _________________ Richard

Oldboy is of course right, this is how you add places to a POI category. I can recreate this though - the pocketgps speed camera POI category certainly does not appear in the list to enable (even though stored in the maps directory) on my iPaq. By going through the 'ADD POI' route, then thereafter it does. Don't ask me why this happens, but I was glad I found a workaround.
The enable/disable POI bit was taken straight from Privateers original post but Oldboy is also right, 'Warn When Near' POI operates independently of whether or not the POI category is enabled/disabled, so the slowing down of frame rate 'feature' can be avoided by doing this. |

Thanks Oldboy, I am not using the latest Version of 5 as when i downloaded the one update available from the tomtom website, tomtom would not run afterwards, so i removed it.
What is "Warn when near" please??? Are you saying that i do not need to show the cameras as a POI.................but can instead have it trigger off when 200 yards away??
At the moment i am showing it on live maps and having bleeps go off when approaching. |

In Change Preferences > Manage POI there is an option to Warn When Near. In that menu you are able to set up differing warning distances and sounds for different POI's.
It seems that you must already have it set up, because you are having the warning sounds. _________________ Richard

Again thanks and yes it is set up to warn me.
I noticed an icon today which allows me to turn off the presently displayed poi's so that they are no longer visible. This seems to have worked in that the alarms still sound and the map now scrolls smoothly.
HAPPY NEW YEAR OLD BOY AND CO....................and thanks. |

I have added a couple of new POI's in addition to the Speed Camera database (which works fine) but I cannot see these new POI's?
They do not appear on the map or in any of the 'disable etc' menus on TT5, although I can see the data on my SD card next to all of the other (working) POI's - any thoughts or offers of help would be greatly appreciated. Darryl, Have you loaded on to the card POI files which have an .OV2 file extension and a coresponding .BMP file extension, if so then how many POIs have you loaded there is a limit of 40 custom POIs above that and you won't see them appear - Mike |
