TomTom 700 Resetting?

I have a TomTom Go 700 which is a few weeks old. On a few recent journies my TomTom has appeared to reset on a number of occasions (upto 3 times in a 1.5 hour journey).

But it doesn't always do - on many journies it behaves perfectly.

The symptoms are:

Screen momentary displays the splash screen
Sometimes shows the progress bar like you get after terminating a USB connection
Then displays the TomTom 'hands' logo

On most occasions the TomTom then recalculates the route and returns to normal operation.

On some occasions the TomTom 'logo' screen remains indefinitely and the unit has to be manually switched off and on to return to normal service. On these occasions the destination is lost.

Is there an explanation for this issue or have I got a faulty unit.

I have had my TTgo do this ever since it was new almost two years ago, but it is quite a rare event and always reverts back to the original journey thankfully, I just have always put it down to the black art (electrickicals).

nheather: I think that you have a (slightly) faulty unit, GOs do reset from time to time (as Boxbrownie said it's a rare occurence), but yours seems to be doing it far too often.

It hasn't done it to me since - I'll keep an eye on it.

Perhaps I should be clearer on how often it happens

Bought mid October and used everyday.

Failed once when my wife was driving (and of course I thought she had done something wrong)

It then happened once to me on a journey from London to Portsmouth
Then 3 times in quick succession on the return journey.

That was Tuesday - nothing since.

My GO 700 resets in the same place every time. Travelling from Rotterdam to Barneveld in Holland, on the same stretch of motorway the GO resets - but resumes the same journey. Luckily, it is at a point where there is 16 miles to go before the next change of road so no panics.

My GO classic did same thing in the centre of Ackworth in West Yorks - without fail if my journey was to take a right turn in the centre of the village, my GO reset!

These repeatability of the problem made me think it was an obscure software glitch.
