Hi, Ive recently bought a hphx4700 with tomtom5 and a thinknavi gps cradle, it seems to take a good 10/15 mins to lock onto any satelites, is this normal? can it be rectified? Also is it possible to connect either of my phones, Nokia 3230 or nokia 6310i to the pda and access tomtom plus services? i've tried and registered with tomtom but keep getting 'unable to connect to service' messages? |

The GPS receiver is built into the back of the cradle and i position it in the centre of the windscreen, i have a vent mount too but figured that would be even less reliable with it being 'out of view'. i drive a ford mondeo. it does have a heated windscreen and i thought that may cause issues but if i use my girlfriends system (Ipaq1710 with a wired tomtom gps receiver) i lock on in seconds? I've tried the cradle in both landscape and portrait settings but with no difference. |

Hmmm. I too have a ThinkNavi cradle - took forever to get a first fix, but thereafter fairly fast (but slower than the BT 338 - no surprise there - not really a fair comparison). Still a lot tidier in-car than the TomTom wired kit, and generally less fussing around than BT. Mine works just fine from the vent mount.
If you have a continuing problem, try contacting your supplier - I got mine from Handtec, and they were helpful. Are you trying to get a fix from the same location each time? Stationary? _________________ Garmin 2360LT

Haven't tried the vent kit yet, i guess that's the last chance. I've tried to get a signal, sitting in the car at home, sitting in it at work, sitting in it at my girlfriends. every time i've either waited 10-15 mins. If i switch it on and drive off it takes the same kinda time. Kinda pee'd off with it all now. Don't want to send the kit back but don't see the point in spending £500 on a satnav system that doesn't know where i am until i'm half way through the journey! |
