WAAS is not (currently) available in UK. It is used in USA to increase the accuracy of your position on the ground. |

The European equivalent is called EGNOS, and is due to start transmitting in January 2006 I believe (it has already missed various previous start dates due to problems, so it may not happen in January either).
I contacted Garmin to ask if the 'WAAS-enabled' i3 would be able to receive, and use, EGNOS signals and they replied :-
"In regard to your email, although the test signals for EGNOS were different the signals have now changed and have been brought into the same frequency as WAAS making them very similar. Engineers and Technicians have tested it successfully and you should be able to receive EGNOS signals.",
so it's looking good !

The new Firmware update version 2.70 now shows in settings / system / gps mode: waas / egnos. I'm sure 2. 60 only showed waas. |

EGNOS is available here - my Garmin Etrex has worked in Differential mode (which is one of the features of WAAS / EGNOS) - BUT it does require a good view of the EGNOS satellites - which appear southerly and fairly near the horizon in the UK.
The service has been intermittent, and reception is even more so - but the accuracy goes to just a few feet - great for Geocaching, but probably not really needed for car navigation. |

Been driving on EGNOS for 2 days now and absolutely no problems (so far).
Must be lucky as I get very few (if any) of the problems encountered in the Forum. |

you cant .....the only indication is in naviagation mode ..if the accuracy is about 10 foot you would be receiving the egnos sats,,if about 30 foot ,you're not....... _________________ *************************** |
