John,
Is your replacement receiver still working fine?
I still haven't received mine. What bugs me is that I'm not sure if my dealer in Sweden has actually sent my old unit to Holux for investigation yet or if they are still doing some kind of investigation on their own. I would really like to get a statement from Holux about the cause of this problem and what solutions have been found.

Hi Ulf
Yes for the moment, thankfully all is still fine.
As they say, no news is good news.

My Holux 213 is starting again to play up second one.
1. Do’s not pick up satellites in the dark take about 30 minutes.
2. Tried cold start no luck.
3. Picks up and then loses satellites after a number of attempts.
4. If I turn engine off with system on then will not boot back up.
5. Will not pick up satellites up in rain.
6. Every morning take about 30 to 40 minutes to get a fix.
7. Has me going through fields even on routes
Contact Holux by e-mail all I get is
1. The rain is affecting it.
2. Always turn off before engine
3. must be screen on car
4. Take battery out do hard re-set. (But new so warranty void if do)
5. Tom Tom is corrupt do re boot (Done still same)
This is my second one GPS change the first with no problems but I don’t see why they should keep doing it since this is a holux problum.
May be some one from Holux would like to answer these.

Afternoon Gents
Just to let you know that I am having exactly the same problems with my GR-213. I am on my second unit now (GPSforless were brilliant in replacing my first one, sent the new one before I had to send the old one back). However this morning, on my 45 minute drive to work, I could not get a fix, no amount of cold, warm or hot resets would get it to work. I fear the worst!!!!!! _________________ Volvo V60 Sat Nav (Garmin?)

Did it stop working comletely? That sounds slightly different from the case we have been discussing here. I've always managed to get the unit back on track eventually, but the TTFF has gone longer and longer over time. I'm now waiting for my first replacement receiver to arrive. Maljaya48, could you please let me know the serial number of your receiver? I then can compare to the serial number of my new unit when I receive it. The serial number of my old one is 213-52600420.
/Ulf
PS: Have you checked with SiRF-Demo if the receiver has accidently ended up in SiRF mode (binary mode)? That could explain why it seems dead to you. The normal operation mode is NMEA mode, which can be interpreted by your navigation program. |

I wondered myself if it had gone into SIRF mode, but as I was trying to reset it tonight, I nearly piled into the back of an HGV on the A1 and gave up!!! I will get the serial number tomorrow and let you know. It's such a pity, as when this unit is working properly it's very very good, far better than my old Co-Pilot bluetooth receiver.
Cheers

Morning Gents
Further update, no fix again this morning until about half an hour into the journey when the LED started flashing, but I was getting no data in Winfast Navigator or GPS view. Tried several resets but no joy, have ripped it out again and will contact GPSforless for another.
S/N is 213-52700641.
The symptoms for this receiver are different to the first one, this one just seems to have died. wheras on my first one the TTFF just gradually deteriorated over a period of a couple of weeks.
Assuming that GPSforless give me another, if that packs up, I am going for another brand unless this if a problem generic to the SIRF 3 chipset.

I just received an email from Holux in Taiwan saying that they have a fix for the TTFF problem in their latest firmware. I sent a question back asking which firmware version contains this fix. When I receive my replacement unit (hopefully today) I will read out the firmware version and compare with the information from Holux.
Regards,
Ulf |

A new message from Holux states that my first receiver (the one that I sent back, that is) contains a firmware that is known as V5 (internally at Holux). The bug fix was implemented in the V6 firmware. I sent a new question back to learn what serial number my receiver must have to include the V6 firmware. If I get this information I should be able to tell if my replacement receiver contains the bug fix.

Ulf |

I had another problem with hot start at the weekend. On a trip up north, we stopped at a service station for 5 mins, got back in the car & I could not get a fix.
In the end I had to disconnect the power to my cradle (@70mph) and leave for a few minutes, the reconnect, leave starting tom tom for a few minutes, then it got a fix.
I'd be interested to find out if I have an up to date firmware with bug fix. Can Holux tell from the serial number? _________________ Skoda Columbus and for emergencies: TomTom + iPhone 4 & TomTom car kit |

Hi,
Can I have some more information from those of you that are having problems with the GR213 please & maybe those that aren't would be helpful too.
What navigation software are you using, eg. TomTom Navigator?
Is your PDA in a powered mount?
Is your receiver powered by having it hardwired or from cigarette adapter?
There does appear to be an issue with certain software forcing the GR213 to do a cold start if it doesn't have a valid fix. Doing a cold start whilst the vehicle is in motion is going to lengthen the time to gain a lock.
Look forward to receiving your comments.
Thanks,
Julie |

I'd suggest you send an email to Holux support with your serial number and ask if your unit has V5 or V6 firmware. That's what I'll do.
