Just about to buy a I3 and sell the tom tom BUT can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone on the EURO maps.
On the current version of the I3 does the unit come with or without the Major Roads of Europe CD.
Argos ad in the paper says yes, website says no, Maplin website says no, Maplin man in Blackpool shop says yes but it does not cover SPAIN ????
HELP Anyone ????? |

I'll give the Maplin man in Blackpool a virtual slap for you.
The i3 only comes with UK, Ireland and a tiny bit of Northern France.
No CD containing maps. |

Yes for the major roads but it will only show you where you are. You can't navigate using it. |

Does anybody know what we need to buy to get full european maps on the i3, where we buy it and for how much?
Sorry to be so dense but the Garmin website is a pain; MapSource City Navigator Europe is noted as " This product is only available for purchase in the U.S. This product cannot be purchased in Europe. " and City Select® Europe v7 only seems to have an update available (if we can even order it ??) |

You will find the topic discussed at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=27248 starting at page 4
Garmin advised the following
Quote: | There will be additonal regions for Europe to purchase. These will be available soon but there is no confirmed shipping date. ........
You could purchase city select Europe via an automotive kit say for our GPS MAP 60c. This will have City Select Europe maps on CD ROM which will enable you to use on your unit. YOu will need to also purchase a blank mirco SD card from a computer/camera shop. The Automotive kit RRP at 186.48.
The pre programmed cards will RRP at £76.66 ex VAT each.
The regions will be split down to 8 regions with France and Benelux being one of them. |

That that blows that one out of the water, an extra 260 pound for city select. Wonder how long we will have to wait for Garmin to bring out the European mini sid cards.

It is indeed. And if you buy a Quest then you can unlock the maps for use on a second Garmin GPS unit too. If you need full European maps then the Quest might be a better choice.
The Quest is >£300 though, do you have a link to where it was advertised for £200 (surely some mistake ) _________________ Gone fishing! |

I understand there will be a Garmin I5 with full european maps but you may have to wait a few more weeks before you can buy one of those.
If you are just planning the one trip to Spain you could buy a Spanish I3 from Spain via internet. Will still be able to speak "English" Use it while you are over there and flog it on Ebay when you return. There will surely be someone else going to Spain who would want it. Probably only loose about £25. |

Wow, that makes the Quest an awesome buy as it has a load more more features than the SP i3, it's waterproof and it comes with full European maps and Mapsource for planning routes on the PC (which costs about £180 seperately). Quest 1 doesn't do POI alerts though... _________________ Gone fishing! |

the main reason for buying the I3 is the size so the I3 it is I guess I will just have to wait for the euro maps to appear on the shelves, wonder how much each country card will be ???? no doubt someone on ebay will put a package together once they are available. |
