Unable to find information on
1. Why the serial port is needed on the 60CS (unless its to use
the device as a receiver only with other mapping software?)
2. Is it needed for upload and download of tracks and routes, or
is the usb port for that?
3. Suppliers variously describe the serial port connections, what
is the one on the 60 known asplease?
4. Where to find a suitable cable... presumably Garmin -> some
convertor -> usb.
5. How the heck does the PC software resolve that it's talking
to a 'serial port' when data is being transferred to the usb port
(with vastly different data rates).
Confused.

GPS 60 has 2 separate serial AND USB ports.
You use USB cable/software when you connect to the Mini USB port.
You use serial cable/software when you connect to the serial (round) port.
Does that make sense? _________________ Pc-Mobile

Yes, the 60CS manual shows that.
Any answers to the questions though?

The choice of ports are there to support both types of connection. USB for PC's Laptops and Serial to also allow connection to devices that do not support USB such as PocketPC's.
You can use the GPS to supply position data to other devices. _________________ Darren Griffin |
