I know I have seen instructions somewhere, but i'll be damned if I can find them. I have been using the database for a couple of months now and would like to start contributing to the database, my question is how?
It is easy enough to stop in a residential area and collect the co- ordinates (I suppose but don't really know), but how do you do it when you are on the move? It isn't really practical to stop the traffic on the M6 to just to take some co- ordinates and there must be an easier way to do it.
I am using TT5 on a Mio 168.
Thanks for the help.

Here's what I do on the TomTom Go, I assume that you also have "favourites" as well as POI categories on the TT5....
The idea is to save any new cameras, (or changes such as revised speed limits or removed cameras) into a NEW poi category. I call mine "new cams" and have a yellow warning triangle as the icon.
However, its too many button presses to do that directly while you're on the move, so I save them temporarily as favourites first:- Tap screen, tap "add favourite", tap "next screen" arrow, then "gps position".
When you're stopped, you can then go to "preferences", "manage POI", "add POI", "from favourite", giving it a name in the format GATSO@40 etc.
Then, once a month, just copy the newcams.ov2 file onto your PC and email it to Cameras@PocketGPSWorld.com as an email attachment. Anything that needs a bit of description (like "its a red light cam not a speed cam and the limit is 40 not 50") or can be mentioned in the email too.
As an alternative to all the button tapping above, TomTom Go users can download Scaredycat's add-on applications from http://www.automated.it/ttg-apps.html
and use the "Quickam" application which allows you to enter new cameras with two presses of the screen!
Hope this is of SOME use to you as a TTN5 user

Okay, so I have found some new specs cameras on the M62. I have followed your instructions, but when are the co-ordinates saved to the ppc? Is it when you click the done button or when you first tap the gps position?
Once in the favourites, how do I make a ov2 file to send to GPS World?
I know these are probably simple answers but I can't seem to get my head around it.
Cheers

I take it preferences is change preferences? In manage favourites, the only option I have is to rename or delete or done.

Ok.
Change Preferences | Manage POI | Add POI | Select POI Category | Favourite | Select Favourite
You will need to have previously created a POI category. Naming it to something like "Newcams". _________________ Richard

Which program is that? If you mean Scaredy cat's Quickam, no. It's a Linux app so won't run on a PDA running a Win OS. _________________ Richard

Andy,
I have carried out your instructions of how to record a new camera, it works great. However how do you find out the longitude and latitude to make an ov2 file to send to the pocketgps site?
The POI only shows the road name.
Hope you can help.

If you want to edit the information in the POI you can convert it with a program like Dumpov2, or POIConverter, into a text file.
Then you can see the lat/long and edit the text if you want to. You could also send it in this format if you want. _________________ Richard

BV, I hadn't checked whether your setup uses .ov2 files when I wrote my first post.
If you use the ov2 versions of the downloaded speed camera datafiles, then your "new cameras" POI category will already be in the right format to be sent off to the pocketGPS guys. It's always worked for me, so no conversion or extra information should be needed .
Hope this helps.... |
