[quote="gilbem1"]I have received my French holiday destination GPS co-ordinates from the holiday company, but when I create an ITN (as described in this link) file with them in, they appear in amber with a line through them and the option to <Show on Map> is greyed out.
Could someone who knows how, please check for me where the hell in the world these co-ordinates refer to, as I'm sure the XY details are not in France.
Listed below as per their brochure !
Site 1: X: -151200m Y: 5410000m 43:49:58N 1:21:31W
Site 2: X: 1800m Y: 5946300m 47:13:04N 0:00:57E

[Quote] simply recalculate the lat/lon values into decimal representation and then multiply by 100000
I have the same problem - but different sites in France! As a complete novice to using lat/long (but not TTN) my question is how do I recalculate the lat/long values into decimal representation?
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but if you don't ask, you'll never learn!
Thanks |

Simply devide seconds by 60 to get decimal minutes and divide decimal minutes in the same way to get decimal degrees -
N43:49:58
58/60 = 0.9666666667 minutes
49.96666666667/60 = 0.8327777778 degrees so
N43:49:58 = N43.8327777778 in decimal degrees format.
Note I have reduced these to ten decimals - the numbers are much longer than that! |

Now for the next bit - N43.8327777778 IIRC needs to be converted to a decimal of the 90 degrees from the equator to the North Pole -
Divide by 90 and you get 0.48703086419755555555555555555556
Multiply by 100000 and you get 48703.
By convention N and E are positive values S and W are negative. Note that in E and W there are 180 degrees, not 90.
Personally, to avoid all this I would use something like POIEdit that does all the work for you.
If any of this is wrong - please feel free to correct, I am only going from memory. |

How about the other way round (compared to the original topic of this thread)?
What would be the most convenient way of finding the coordinates of a given spot on TomTom 5's map, or an address? Would you save it as a favorite, create an itinerary starting from there, or what? And then how to see the coordinates? |

If you create an itinerary and export the file to the PC, you can read the co-ordinates in a Text Editor. Note that there is no decimal point in the Itinerary numbers.
If you create a POI category you can export this to the PC, convert it to a Text File, (use something like Dumpov2) and read the co-ordinates in a Text Editor. _________________ Richard

Is there a way using TT Nav 5 with HP IPAQ to save as POI any current positions.
I would like to save POI or Lat/ Lon as I travel along on rivers and esteuries so I can reuse these on the return journey?
Thanks |

There's probably another way, but here goes.
Browse Map/Tap Arrow at top of screen/Navigate Icon/Add as POI.
The Arrow sets your current position to the centre of screen (flashing cursor) and the Navigate Icon (cursor icon) gives options to do something at the cursor point. _________________ Richard

Hi there
To remove it, simply delete whichever files you installed. The following list shows all files you may have installed and any other files it may have created:
- OS GPS Convertor.exe program file
- Shortcut to the program file
- osgps.ov2 and osgps.bmp files in the TomTom map folder
- osgps.itn file in the TomTom itinerary folder
- osgps.dat and osgps.bmp files in the Destinator favorites folder
- apidata1.$$$ file in the OziExplorer program folder
It saves your option settings and the last position entered in the registry. Should you want to delete them (personally I wouldn't bother, they'll do no harm left there and take up very little space) you'll find them in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OS GPS Convertor
Hope this helps _________________ Barry Davies

Hi freddan
The red line indicates that this position is not within the area covered by the map currently loaded in TomTom. So you need to either load a map for that area, or check your coordinates as they may not have been entered correctly.
Assuming you're using my utility, by all means post an example of a position you want to enter and how you're doing it, and I'll try to be more help.
Best wishes _________________ Barry Davies
