I'm not sure where to place this, but have decided this board is probably the most appropriate.
I thought i would write down my experience of this custom mount.
The car cradle supplied with my Mio 168 allowed the power lead to dangle from the bottom. As the Mio charging circuit is so delicate, it didn't seem like a good idea to continue charging while driving, until I saw this.
What a great idea. Charge the Mio on the road with a secure charger, which has the added benefit of a built in speaker as the Mio can be a bit quiet, especially with the radio on!!
The item arrived and straight away I was a little disappointed. It was supplied in four plastic bags and there were no instructions. It's not too difficult to set up I suppose and there really is no need for a box, except maybe for protection in the post?
My Mio is a snug fit in the charger and I do worry sometimes about how firm you have to be to to get it to "slot in", especially as the motherboard has already had to be replaced due to the charging circuit. I am also somewhat disappointed with the quality and clarity of spoken instructions through the speaker. With volume at about 75% on the cradle and at 90% on the Mio, the camera warnings and directions are very muffled. I don't know what I was really expecting, but I thought it would be better than it is.
If anyone else has any experiences of this product, I would be interested in what you think of it.
Cheers

Hi marksfish ,
I have had one of these for about 3 weeks , like you I wanted a more secure connection to the pda socket . I find that the mio goes in quite easily if you just put a bit of pressure on the bottom of the mio towards the back of the mount .Getting the sound level right is not easy , I have it adjusted so it's not a lot louder than the mio on its own , set at 70% .
If you pull the jack in and out to compare the sound quality , I think there is a definite improvement , not a huge one , but if not then you may have a duff unit..... Try the 70% setting , you may be overdriving the sound module . |

Hi unclebill
Yes, I think I have just about worked out how to get the best from my cradle now and wouldn't/ couldn't be without it. I think I was probably being a little paranoid about the pda socket after having a duff one previously which broke within a week. No probs since the new motherboard fitted though (white rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits)!!
Only one other tiny problem I have is that the cable is too short. Using the window mount, the cable is quite taught and sometimes causes the plug to come loose in the socket and the charge to stop. The kit came with a vent mount, so I think I will probably use that when I get a chance to put it in.
Cheers
