Just come back from a week touring on motorcycles in Ireland and I was disappointed by the level of detail for minor roads.
I have City Select V6 with V7 upgrade.
Is there a source for more detailed maps for Ireland?
I also have Autoroute 04 and Magellen Mapsource which show even less detail.
Is it possible that detailed digital maps just don't exsist for rural Ireland?
We managed OK but seemed to spend a lot of time flying low over blank patches!!
Also I had a problem with the flip out antenna losing its connection from time to time, had to give it a wiggle to restore a signal. Is this a common problem and is there a cure? I've use switch and contact cleaner on the pivot points and normal service has been restored for now.

Ireland is not covered in detail completely. Only Dublin and in the south there are some areas with complete coverage. Maybe coverage will be expanded in version 8, but nobody knows... _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Yes.
The map suppliers (Navteq and TeleAtlas) generally buy the maps from the country they are mapping and then add extra data to make them useful for navigation. The problem is that Ireland has never been accurately mapped.
Navteq are the people who are supplying Garmin with their maps and they are in the process of mapping Ireland (North and South) themselves. About 2 years ago (City Select v4) there was virtually zero coverage outside of Dublin and Belfast. They now have all the N and R roads mapped, along with many cities which is a huge leap.
Rest assured that it's now 1000 times better than it was. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Thanks for that, it's about what I thought.
Next time I will get a better map (paper type) 8O _________________ Peter
