Anybody know what has happened to the Navman forum site? I have not been able to view it since the start of the week. There used to be a message stating that it was unavailable and to try later, but now the entire site is unreachable. |

The Navman forums were meant to be a self-help area but it quickly became apparent that users wanted answers to more technical questions.
Hardly surprising really, but answers were slow in coming due to the fact that the forums were not intended to replace Technical Support and were managed by a single member of staff in addition to his normal work role with the help of two external moderators.
Some users were getting increasingly more impatient in waiting for those answers which led to criticism towards the forum administrator and moderators despite being told that it was not an official support forum.
As a result the desicion was taken by Navman to temporarily suspend the forums until enough resource can be released to manage them more effectively. _________________ Ian.

Let's hope it gets the support from Navman and that the stupid posters stop or their posts deleted as soon as possible.
Incessant criticism on forums is an absolute bore and can only cause problems - I've done my share of moderating in the past!
FWIW I found the forum useful and I do agree that support from the Navman team would be an excellent idea.
Thanks for the information.

I wasnt at all suprised to see navman shut the forum. There were some guys that seemd to think cos they had spent 300 quid they should be treated like kings by navman. given free upgrades. new hardware etc. one chap came on to say how great his was as it had been lost in a field for 6 monhts then found and was still working. so another poster started moaning that navman should send him a new one. even tho he was happy!
I have no relationship with navman. just a happy customer. Dont expect navman to open a form again will u guys. Its only ever bad press for them. By having a open in house forum it just gives the knockers something to knock against. |

Sundance, I agree with you about these unreasonable posters, it spoils the party for the rest of us.
I thought the forum seemd to be developing into a nice two way discussion in some areas, and I know other companies have found that to be successful.
I personally thnk the Navman range is very good and am very pleased with responses I have had from them.
When the forum comes back, and do hope it does perhaps they could get some non employees to do some moderating and where necessary remove postings. Navman need to stipulate that the forum is not for complaints which can go through their existing channels but is for the development and help for using Navman equipment.
That way a mderator does not have a problem removing offensive postings, and if it is a non Navman employee there is not a company interest, only the interest of members wanting a successful and useful forum.
Lets hope the Forum is up and running again as soon as possible and can be a place to help Navman users!
