TTG Security Concerns

i had a classic stolen in July and now have a ttg 300 i never leave the mount or the ttg in the car when i im not there.I allso have a external areial and have fitted the cable in such away that i can unscrew it from the mount with little effort so i can remove the mount from the car. I read in my local paper that sat nav equipment is the number one thing for the car thief....so be careful out there its a jungle

Tals, before telling us how you always take your TTG & Screen Mount of everytime READ the post fully.
When you have an External Aerial which includes a modified mount taking it off the windscreen is the easy part, its what to do with it, since it is connected to a few meters of coax which is fitted into the car so that it does not show.

It took me nearly an hour to hide all the coax down the side of the windscreen, under the carpet, through the doors (2 of them), through the boot area & up the rear side panel to the roof.

Are you really suggesting that I spend an hour pulling it all out each time I leave my car & another hour putting it back, you really need to get out more.

I use my TTG 300 several times a week & spending 2 hours per day putting it in & taking it out is out of the question.

I tend to leae the mount in the car but never the GO that always goes with me if they smash the windows they might find a bit of loose change but nothing of value.

I can see the problem is much more difficult if you are using an external aerial. I had ordered an external aerial to use my TTG in my car (Audi A3) as this has a heat reflective windscreen so I had anticipated problems, and decided to fix the TTG in front of the gear leaver. When I had worked out how the external aerial connects using the mount I cancelled the order for the aerial. Fortunately the TTG works fine in my A3 even mounted low down near the gear leaver, it also works the wife’s Jazz with no problems and no need for the external aerial, so for me mounting using Velcro pads works fine. (You do need to build up the pads using thick double-sided tape to make this method work)

I use an external antenna in my Laguna but I haven't fitted it in. I use it out of the passenger door on the Drivers side and feed it under the drivers seat.

When I get to my destination I remove the antenna from the roof, put it under a blanket on the floor. I then remove the coax from the mount push it under my seat, Remove the mount and the TT.

I then wipe the windscreen with a cloth to remove any telltale signs it has been used in the car.

The Mount and TT come with me when I leave the car in a bag. It doesn't take too long to fit and remove.

Yes it's a pain in the backside I can't leave my mount in the car (and when it's a family outing I have three kids under three to get sorted as well) but unfortunatley in this day and age you just can't do it - sooner or later it will get nicked.

My advice would be.... invest in a decent bag, take it with you, make it very obvious you are taking it with you and make sure nothing can point to one being in the car - it's the only way to be sure.

I'd love a docking station but I might as well leave the window open - it would save on window glass.

You are a saint. I truly admire the patience you have to go through all that rigmarole, I take my hat of to you.

As I said in another post my aerial is fitted as a permanent fixture so day to day removal is not really an option.

If a time comes when some lowlife destroys half my car only to walk away with a Screen Mount & an External Aerial then I may have to go down the same route as you.

Three Kids under three, i remember those days. Much as i love my all grown up kids the days when they were all under three is thankfully well and truly gone.

I had a brand new car wrecked by theives a few years ago - it really puts you off installing anything they might want to nick.

they caused £3000 damage - the interior was never the same.

This is why I never leave anything in the car.

I'd love a new stereo but after that - no way.

Yes the kids are hard work Smile

especially as the youngest two are twins - I'm enjoying it as much as I can - they grow up sooo fast!!

I've found that the external aerial works great if on the dash near the A post of my Mondeo with a heated screen.

Problem is I have several meters of cable I don't need. I'd like to have it shortened and read somewhere that this company

did this for another TT owner. SO might get this sorted soon.

Personally I don't think there is a real problem leaving the mount in the glove box as long as there is no sign something has been stuck on the screen. Always take TT with me, have found a bum bag is good option.

Also Badland are developing an antenna that is a tax disc holder. This would be quite discreet.

One thing I'd like to see is some sort of push together connector for the aerial lead. So that I could have a short lead from the TT mount that would push onto a connector on the back of the tax disc holder for example.

Developing the thread further - i've so far not had much luck with the UK police - for such a small country it is very regionalised. So a crime that was committed in London can't be reported in Hampshire - well it can but under sufference and you then need a crime report from London to proceed. In addition that valuable serial number gets recorded in the regions database but not (as they indicated) in all of the regions. That leads me to believe that if you want to take up a life of crime in this country you steal from one region and sell in the other - that was neither force is the wiser.

Further if you have a look in ebay it doesn't take an Einstein to work out what is slightly dodgy - Tom toms 300 - sold without anything except mount or unit etc. Yet are the Police interested in this - like heck. How are we going to sort out the crim eif the police can't keep up with the age.

I use one of the Brodit brackets which places the mount in front of the middle ventilation grilles (vehicle is a Kia Sedona).

No tell-tale mount stuck on the windscreen and I often hang a baseball cap over the bracket. It would take a well serious look to identify that anything's there (I hope!).
