Every once on a while there are news releases crawling through our spam filters that are just amazing and awe inspiring. Like this one from Pharos

Here's the patent in detail...
In Pharos' defense (defence) it is necessary to mention that the patent was applied for in November 2000, and was just being granted in June 2005. But the fact that it was granted at all is remarkable... Will there be any consequences for the market of combined devices?

| As far as I understand the patent it's just an interface box between a stand-alone PDA and a sand-alone GPS device also providing external power to both devices. Why should there be any "consequences for the market of combined devices"? Am I missing something? |

| I've read the patent and it just seems like the patent for a single cable which supplies both power to both devices as well as communication between them. |

It's amazing the kind of stuff that are granted patents these days. I bet there is one covering the placing of a stick of chocolate over ice-cream.
Free market - a market where patents are granted freely to anyone with enough money to pay a legal team to file hundreds of patent applications a month. |
