This might sound daft but how do you install this program on your pc. I have XP and have microsoft.net 1.1. When I click on the 'offlinetraficnewssetup.msi' it just open up another folder with 7 files in it. The file names are made up of a mixture of numbers and letters.

Hope you can help

Thanks for that.. Now in the destination directory I get a squillion log files, each different but containing something similar to:

************

http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/tpeg/en/local/rtm/coventry_tpeg.xml
--------------------------------
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.
--------------------------------

************

The thing is if I can access that URL from Internet Explorer!

I also get these appearing in my event logs but I think they're unrelated

************

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service IISADMIN with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{A9E69610-B80D-11D0-B9B9-00A0C922E750}

************

Oh well, I was getting excited about this little tool :-)

Good luck anyway, take care!

Eep, I posted too soon!!

Fixed the problem, app worked like a dream.

It was a screw up with my PC, nothing wrong with the software itself.

Excellent tool, well done keep up the excellent work :-))))))

The only hint I can think of now is to show a download meter so the users are in the know.

New OTN version loaded, now get a load of OTN text files (81 in total) with for example this text inside one of the files:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/tpeg/en/local/rtm/bedfordshire_tpeg.xml
--------------------------------
The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

Looking in a few more of the txt files, I see they are all the different counties.

Got a ov2 file but with 0kb file size.....

Did notice the box you have allowed in "Options" for proxy settings. Went & entered "http://www.ukonline.net" but no luck so far.

If you are running through a proxy server the url in options should be entered like so:

http://123.234.123.120:321

If you don't use a proxy then you shouldn't enter anything into this field.

The logging is in place to assist me in finding the cause of issues. Once you are up and running you shouldn't see anymore of these appearing.

Guys, the problem I had was, I use Firefox and its own proxy settings on my PC are nothing, but IE has its own proxy config too and the big difference is the proxy settings for IE are global to the entire OS! I found I indeed had a proxy set on my IE so I removed it and OTN worked!

If you're at home you really don't need a proxy, so remove it out of IE and leave the proxy field blank in OTN.

I had the same problem as you hogbreath and this fixed it.

Tried without anything in the proxy settings box & get loads of txt files "OTNXmlErr" as before with:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/tpeg/en/local/rtm/bedfordshire_tpeg.xml
--------------------------------
The underlying connection was closed: The proxy name could not be resolved, verify correct proxy configuration.

with this url in the settings box http://212.135.1.36 I then get:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/tpeg/en/local/rtm/bedfordshire_tpeg.xml
--------------------------------
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server.

OTN is now staying in the system tray, it use to disappear, general feel is the prog is working just needs another tweak some how....... Smile

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but successfully installed OTN and it automatically updates exactly as it says on the tin but can't see the overlay when I run TT5. I do see it in the map folder so know its there. How do I set it up and use this fantastic utility?

Where is the proxy setting in IE & yes I'm using Firefox. Assume you have to put IE back as the default window.

Another annoying glitch is I now get a Logon Window requesting a password, have not entered one, but still it shows, assume this came courtesy of .NET Framework

Thanks in advance to all

Very impressed Richard.

Loaded .net 1.1 from the Windows Update site, Then loaded OTN.

I set the download directory to my Great Britain map dir on my iPaq, and the secondary one to where I keep all my POIs on my PC, and everything works first time. The only thing I had to do was to tell my firewall to allow OTN through!

I'm just a little worried that I may have overload of info as I have already got all my cameras popping up audio warnings!

FYI - using the following.
Win98SE with ActiveSync 3.7.1
Old iPaq with TT3 and Checkpoint 3.2
NAT router (hardware) and ZoneAlarm firewall on the PC

Thanks again,

Noel :D :D :D

Went & unchecked the http settings for 1.1 (both boxes) - but still no luck

What now Confused

Pete

ps. would prefer OTN as an icon on the desktop not collecting updates automatically enabled system tray

in IE go to the drop down:

TOOLS

then [Internet Options]

then [Connections] tab

then [Lan Settings]

uncheck 'use proxy server'

Hog, run netstat ([netstat 3]) from a command line and see if OTN is even sending out any traffic on your network connection.

If someone could just have this churning out data to a public web location, that'd be fantastic!

Mr. Sutcliffe Smile you need to speak to PocketGPSWorld and ask them to host a file you can update via FTP or something, every 30 mins or less.

This would be better than an application running on every PC, and it would add value to the PocketGPSWorld site up there with the speed camera db, surely that would be in their interest.
