Hi,
Shelled out some more hard earned cash and bought another system (GO700) I'm sure it will have it's own quirks and problems but I've had my fill of Navigon misinformation, the car power adapter and software working when it feels like it and TMC issues with the upgrade.
What really grates is the way this company feels it's OK to mislead customers and advertise a cheap upgrade in the hope enough will buy it before anyone realises they are being fleeced, then totally deny the issue even exists - thanks to everyone who posted on this forum warning people.
I'd only bought the system 8 weeks before the upgrade was announced - I wasn't bothered about paying for an upgrade. What I did expect was the functionality from the TMC module I had paid extra for to still exist. Too much to ask?
I even called Navigon to clarify the situation (It took some believing I'm sure you'll agree) - The chap who answered the phone initially tried to deny it then suddenly changed his mind and admitted it wasn't currently working.
You just have to look at the Clevermap prices to understand where they are going with this product.
So it is now officially "shelved" :D - yes I really do dislike it that much I wouln't inflict the company never mind the product on anyone else - I'm not that much of a git.
Just wanted to say thanks to all the people who have posted on this forum who have made living with this terrible product just that little bit easier.
Maybe I'll see some of you in the TOMTOM forums................
Cheers,
Chris |

Navigon say they will have an update/patch available from the 21st July, 2005. What it includes we will have to wait to find out, but one main problem is the very slow speed it works at, also the grey map colours, and I now see that they have entered in to an agreement with Mitac to supply mapping to them, but they say the map data will be Tele Atlas and not Navteq as used with Mobile Navigator 5.
Personally I have always preferred Tele Atlas, it was a big surprise to find they had changed from Tele Atlas with version 5, the Navteq maps are so out of date around my home location compared to the old Tele Atlas.
My personal score out of 10 for version 4 = 8.5
My personal score out of 10 for version 5 = 4
The biggest backward step I have seen for a new product version, released without proper beta testing, these issues should not have ever arisen. |

Totally agree - I really can't see the logic in releasing a product which obviously needed more testing.
They managed to launch it before TOMTOM launched their new products - that could very well be the reason it was rushed. |

As suspected the update does not provide TMC support for the UK!
If fact it removes support for French TMC from Mediamobile, but continues to support trafficFM |

They should really make it clear what they are going to do about this .
Even if it's nothing. _________________ Thanks,

Hi Guys,
Pretty p'd off with Navigon now. For me the software and new patch seems to work OK but THE VANISHED TMC IN THE UK is a big issue!
It's clearly a matter of misleading advertising and I wonder if anyone is considering taking NAVIGON to task - maybe a few of us who shelled out for MN5 recently - consumer law in the EU will support us?
I recently sent a strong communication to their CEO - no reply. I guess they're only interested in their German market - where TMC still works.
It's a great pity, as TT has its faults too and competition is healthy.
Ah me - it's back to good old FM Radio Traffic Reports! |

Luckily I cancelled my order for 5 and stuck with 4.2.
I can't see Navigon gettig much of a market share in the UK without TMC now........................... _________________ Thanks,

Up-date;
I installed the patch some weeks ago now and tried the new map colours, but although the program runs quicker it still slow compared to version 4.2, so have given up on it, taken the plunge and purchased TomTom 5, no comparison between TT5 & NM5, TT is just so much better.
Sorry Navigon, had your chance but you produced a very poor product in v5 as far as I am concerned. |
