Hi Guy's
Kinda noobie to GPS, brought a x50 off ebay, sounded nice as has DDS what ever that is! tried looking it up but nothing, ANYWAY!!
Finaly figuried out how to connect the x50 to my 6670, used software called MapViewGPS 2 (Waiting on my 512mb card to put TomTom on), but red was constantly on, so then went out the house and drove round for about 30mins but no luck at all, read that software can effect it but cant see how as it receives signal seperate to the software it sends the details to. all it shows is altitude -18m, I have some sort of manuel but every1 on here seems to request one so may be different to mine, thebitch@streetvans.co.uk
Any help much appriciated |

I would try removing the Battery's over night then switch back on in clear view of sky and leave it on for maybe 1/2 an hour to see if it gets a fix ( i think flashing led )
Don't connect until you have a fix and don't drive around will trying to get a fix
Hope this helps
Let me know

Hi Ya,
This Unit is a Polstar PBT-111
There are some utilities for pc/pda and manual available in the support section
By the screen dump there is connection between the GPS and the Phone/PDA and i take it the little circle is spinning, so data is comming in
The GPS is saying it can see a number of Satelites but cannot fix their position in the sky
It may be worth seeing if the utillities can factory reset the device or at the least do a cold restart
Otherwise i would say the unit may be flaky (there are some report of problems
Hope you get it sorted

after still having no luck at all with getting a signal my friend brought over his Holux GR-236 receiver. which instantly picked up around 8/9 sats and had strong signals to themm and worked a treat. really impressive little thing.
so we went for a walk and tried the x50 in different open areas and after an hour of trying different places the best we got was a slight signal on one sat. so it look slike its either just not very good or is a dud. either way im going to try and get my money back.... not sure how easy that will be with it being form ebay and all..
i think ill be investing in a gr-236 myself. its very tiny and gets very good signals even in doors. well worth the extra, i think the lesson here is with gps receivers you get what you pay for... although the x50 should have atleast worked :|
anyways thanks for all the help |

I had a simular problem with my Fuzion X-70, AKA Pulsar PBT-111.
If it's the same problem I had you need to go into GPS Device configuration in Ton Tom, then select "Other Cable NMEA GPS" (even though you are using a Bluetooth GPS receiver)!
Then select baud rate set to 4800
Finally select your Com Port, in the case of my HP 4150, COM Port 6.
Incidentally I found contacting the manufacturer directly in Tiawan very helpfully. An email reply detailing this fix came within half a day of sending the email, given the time difference this is good service.
You can find them at http://www.polstargps.com.tw/company.htm
Good luck.. |

Is there any way of resetting the GPS device? I have the same sort of device as mentioned above. I can connect my PPC to the GPS device but all I get is a red light as though it's looking for sats but can't see any.
Everything was fine until I took the unit to france last week and now it doesn't work |

I've had a simular problem, the receiver needs a little more time to determine where it is in the world
Switch on your receiver and leave out in the open where it has a clear view of the sky.
Make sure that the receiver does not move and stays stationary.
Leave it for 10 or 15 minutes, then come back to it.
You should now see a solid red light and have acheived sat lock. |

Mine flashes red when I get a good sat lock...at the moment it just stays red.
Wondering if something happened to it in the plane when I went to france. It worked to get me to the airport in the UK but stopped working the moment I got out there. |

The only thing I can siggest is to visit the Polsar website at:
http://www.polstargps.com.tw/tech.htm
Here you can download some GPS Test Tools, one for PDA and one for PC.
Not tried them myself but could be useful.
Also try sending their tech suppport an email, they were very responsive when I contacted them.
Good luck, let me know how you get on or if I can help further. |

Ok, Ive just got a Fusion x50 in blue. I had trouble connecting it to my 6630 and tomtom5 etc
Heres what I did, charge the GPS for the required time until fully charged turn on GPS and leave in your garden, stationary for some time this can take upto 30 minutes, the solid red light will turn to flash every 3 secs for a good gps fix.
On the phone into tomtom5 in the main menu option 5 change preferences, then page 4 of preferences select show gps status. Select configure then select other bluetooth GPS from a choice of 2. This then takes you to the pairing menu as in the phone, find your device and select it.
Then all should work. If Tomtom displays no GPS device it hasn't connected to the GPS, if tomtom displays no GPS information then its connected to your gps but the gps cant find the sats, the Fusion does need a bit time to acquire a good fix, it does need to be stationary and in the open when first acquiring
hope this helps |
