|
|
Hi
I have an Acer n10 (WM 2003), overclocked at 400 Mhz, MMC card 256 MB, TomTom 5.0, CF GPS Haicom.
Everything seems to be fine (software running, gps recognized and running) but I cannot calculate any kind of route. I get: Error during planning. And that is it.
Any ideas?
Thank you

how much free space do you have on your memory card?
I'm sure i had a similar problem with an N10 & TomTom 3 and it was due to a nearly full memory card? I'm not familliar with pocket PC's but i guess they are subject to the same problems with regards to "swap File" space?
I currently run an N10 with tomtom 5 & a sysonchip Compact flash card & 512fast sd card without any problems & without a need to overclock the machine.
It may be your problem....possibly?
Cheers

Hmmm.... good point!
I tried also not-overclocked, same thing.
There are 20 Mb free on the memory card, 22Mb free for apps and 15 Mb free for storage. But the swap is created on the memory card or on the main memory?
I will try to use a 512 Mb card to see if it makes any difference.
Thx for idea |

I cant answer the question as to where the swap is created as i really dont know?
I can tell you though that my N10 used to freeze during the route planning stage (similar problem to yours) but i did not get any error messages. I would have to soft reset
I tried my Dads 256 card and problem was gone. There was nothing else other than TOMTOM running on the card so plenty of free space. The only thing i found was a bit of lag. So using my contacts in the IT industry i got myself a free 512meg fast SD card and i've since had no problems :D
Borrow a card if you can and try. It may work and resolve your problem?
Good Luck

Really cool, fast and concrete help :-)
Now I am browsing the net to find out a brand for fast SD cards
Interesting is that Acer n10 is NOT on the compatibility list of TomTom 5... strange... |

I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact (PPC), with TomTom Nav 5 installed.
Recently I had the message "Error During Planning" message too.
-------
This happened for some routes, and not others.
It was irrespective of distance too. Some routes of around 90 miles planned with no problems. Anyover 93 miles or so, then I got the problem.
I tested this a few times. I got a destination 93.4 miles away set up - ok. Then tried the same route with a destination about 1.7 miles further on, but on the same road. (Total journey would be 95.1 miles.). This time is got the "Error During Planning" message.
Other routes failed when they are less than 30 miles!!
There does not seem to be any logic to this problem.
-------
To fix this problem I performed the following steps.
I de-installed all TomTom products from my PPC.
I tried to backup all of my contents of the 1gb SD-Card onto my host PC before re-formatting it. In the process of this exercise, the file "cline.dat" could not be moved (copied). The error message I got was...
"Cannot copy cline: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadabdle".
I managed to copy everything else over, apart from this file.
I took the contents of the original supplied product TT sd-card, and copied into my backup SD-card PC side backup folder.
Here I replaced all the TT directory contents with the original TT supplied files.
I then re-formatted my own 1gb SD-card.
After a successful format, I copied the whole backup directory back onto the 1gb SD-card.
When I replaced the SD-card into my PPC, it fired up TomTom with no problems. I have now applied 5.210 as recommeded by TomTom.
It all works now, with no errors in the planning.
The cause of the orginal error is still up for debate, but I do recall performing a "defrag" on my 1gb SD card a few days before. Maybe it was this that corrupted the cline.dat file mentioned above. I don't know exactly what "cline.dat" is, but it is located in the Great_Britain-Map folder.
I hope that this post helps others too. :D
