Hi there, I've been a lurker at this site since last year when I first entertained the idea of getting SatNav. I have just got myself a good deal on a second hand Orange SPV C500, so I figure now I have the hardware the time is right to join and discuss the software!
So first things first, what GPS receiver do you recommend with the C500? The Bluetooth ones seem expensive, the cheapest I've seen is £65 for a Purple Grid retail one or £50 off eBay, but I'm a complete newbie so have no idea if the "you get what you pay for" philosophy applies, would I regret later getting a cheap GPS receiver? Do any types of wired receiver work with the C500, are they any good?
Right then what software is recommended for my phone? Obviously TomTom Mobile 5 is one of the most well known, but the review on here of CoPilot Live 5 interested me too, I believe that will only work on Windows based phones like the C500, but I don't know if that makes it any better? Out of the 2 which would you recommend, or is there another option I've not considered?
Finally what are the GPS receives like that come with the software bundles? Are they cheapo ones, or are they decent i.e. better than a £65 stand alone unit? For example, I could get CoPilot 5 with their own-brand GPS receiver for a very good price, but would CoPilot and the own-brand GPS receiver be the best solution for me? Also the software is second hand but includes the product key, is that all I'll need to use the software? |
