could anyone please recommend the best gps hardware and software available for use with my HP IPAQ 5455. i have looked at the new copilot pocket pc 4 gps jacket quickstart (uk) as this was a HP recommendation, and the Navman 3450 voice GPS, as you can appreceate i have very little knowledge on either of these systems or there operating software and would be most greatful for any info on either of these products or a better system to use with my IPAQ.
kind regards

CoPilot Live works well, and so does Navman SmartST Pro, but with Navman you will be restricted to the GPS Receivers you can use (eg Navman's). TomTom Navigator 2 and Destinator are other choices. It depends really what you want. Do you want customisable Points of Interest or Speed Cameras ? If so, TomTom Navigator 2 or CoPilot would be better suited. We have both a new Sync Service for POI's and also Speed Cameras here.
If you're looking for European maps, then they all pretty much cover Europe now. We'll have a review of CoPilot Live shortly. |

Dave
As i do a lot of travelling around the country i think knowing where speed cameras and other POI would most definitely be a benefit.
Is it true that the copilot jacket will work with various different software i.e. tomtom 2 and is this the best gps software around?
If i was to purchase the jacket from the USA (which is considerably cheaper there than it is here) would it fully work in the UK with the separately bought UK mapping software?

The CoPilot or Emtac jacket will work with a lot of software, although there are issues with some because it stealths the com port. Certainly TomTom works well with it, I'm not sure about Destinator.
The sleeve should work over here without any issues, there's no difference between US and UK products apart from the chargers supplied. |
