|
|
Hi folks,
I am within a day or 2 of purchasing a GO 500 or 700, but need to know one final little detail. I NEED to be able to run North American maps on the unit, and I was wondering if anyone out there knows if there are any problems with this on the European units?
Also, I am aware that the 500 has an SD slot, whereas the 700 does not. I know I can buy the maps on an SD card, and assuming they are compatible with the European units, is it possible to load them onto the internal drive of the 700 via USB? Anyone know how much free space there is on the internal drive out of the box?
Thanks!

Ok, I've decided to go for it and purchase the USA/Canada SD card from this guy on eBay. He has given me a 100% guarantee that they will work, he has tested them on his own TTG, so I'll keep you all informed in case anyone else is interested. |

You can have the whole of Western Europe and the Continental USA on a 700 with about 21mb spare. This means that Canada doesnt fit. But you can of course copy the map directories to your hard disk of the PC. _________________ Mike Barrett |

He may have given you 100% guarantee that they work on his Go but will they work on yours?
If they have been used there may be problems with the activation and other "legal problems" as TomTom dont seem to like people selling their products to a third parties.
I'm not saying they wont work but if things go wrong your stuck.
Perhaps post the Ebay link so that we can read what he is really selling. |

If it's the original TomTom SD, it would work on any GO |

The link for the item is below, although the auction has now ended:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4668&item=5790584155&rd=1
I contacted the guy and bought the maps directly... they arrived this morning, it is indeed a retail SD Card of the USA maps, still in the sealed package! I have not opened it yet, as I need to confirm that Canada is on the card first.... if not, I'll be returning it to the guy as the auction clearly stated that Canada was included.
I'll keep you all posted on how I get on. |
