Has anyone had an error message, with their 510 saying its short of memory ?
I've just tried to plot a route from Yorkshire to Germany & the unit failed to complete the calculation.
Is this "normal" ?

Running out of memory or driving from Yorkshire to Germany? Laughing
What maps have you got enabled? I would try to disable some of the ones that are not needed and try again.

Its an odd one because the disc's still got 280Mb free and the maps for the continent are basemaps only. I would have expected mapping on those to take up less memory.

only us 256 cards
The problem with larger memory cards is 2-fold:

1: Running a navigation application requires the application to pre-load a certain amount of map data (about 10%) to ensure that the scrolling of the map is smooth. So, considering the iCN510 has limited amount of available program memory (memory resident on the device), pre-loading 10% of 512MB worth of maps will slow the system down to a point where it cannot free memory up quickly enough, and cause the system to report an "Out-of-memory" error.

2: The larger the capacity on the memory card, the slower the access times, which means that while the GPS application is trying to pull real-time mapping information, the SD card cannot provide the information quickly enough, which can again lead to an "Out-of-Memory" error. This is whhy a number of manufacturers have released high-speed cards, some of which are very good, and some of which are not.
