Ipaq hx4700 and Global Sat BT 338. Cannot get TTN5 to recognise the BT-338, despite lengthy emails to TT support. The GPS and PDA pair successfully and the yellow and black spinner spins, but TTN5 still says no GPS device. Please help. I have a 3870 running TTN3 which communicates quite happily with GPS! |

Have you tried the "other cable GPS" trick?
By the way, how is TTN3 talking to the receiver? via SiRF? TTN5 doesn't support SiRF any more, the receiver needs to send NMEA. _________________ Lutz

Is it confirmed that V5 no longer supports Sirf, based on my tests it does seem the case, I've logged a call with TT to see if this is the case. |

what do you mean "is it confirmed"? SiRF is not supported. Period. _________________ Lutz

The only reason for asking is that I have not seen anything officially from TT that states that they have dropped Sirf support, but I have come to the conclusion that they have.
As a result I now have a problem with my Emtac BT receiver as it defaults to sirf mode, and the reason for my request for a Smartphone version of cruxview. Ideally I'd like to reflash my Emtac so that it defaults NMEA, before you ask the Emtac that was supplied by Kane was a special version that defaults to Sirf unlike the standard version.
If anyone can help with any of the above I'd be most grateful fo any help |

Are you suggesting that a BT-338 won't work with TTN 5. If so, I'd like to bet all my money, as mine works absoluteley amazingly |

I had the same problem with my Dell Axim 50V and BT-338
TTN3 worked perfectly, upgraded to TTN5 and the GPS wouldnt work.
The spinner rotated but no input from GPS device.
I had been using the SIIRF Bluetooth connection on TTN3 and what I had to do was reinstall TTN3 use the GPS wizard and select NMEA device 38400 and the appropriate Com
Then upgrade again to TTN5 and use other wired GPS device 38400 com7
Bingo works again.
Must have had some spurious registry setting carried forward from the SIIRF Bluetooth from TTN3
(I had also tried a hard reset and then directly installed TTN5 but that still didnt work)
Now anxiously await TomTom to solve the memory leak problems on the Dell Axim 50V VGA |

Don't confuse chipset with protocol. The BT338 has a SiRF III chipset but HAS TO run NMEA protocol to work with TTN5. _________________ Lutz
