While the map errors are very annoying I can understand why TomTom doesn't know that NI exists. TTN comes with maps of Great Britain. Great Britain doesn't include NI according to this definition from Wikipedia:

Quote:
Great Britain is an island lying off the north-western coast of Europe, comprising the main territory of the United Kingdom (UK). Great Britain is also used as a political term describing the combination of England, Scotland, and Wales, the three countries which together comprise the entire island and including some outlying islands. Great Britain is also widely, but incorrectly, used as a synonym for the sovereign state properly known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I think it it very commendable for people to look for excuses why Tomtom isn't at fault here with the Teleatlas Maps?
Did they or didn't they use them for their s/w, if the anwser is Yes then Whos at fault!

Please can someone explain this to me?

Its worth noting who has the LEGAL responsibilty here. It isn't teleatlas because they haven't sold us anything.

We paid our money to tomtom and anyone with a bit of legal nouse will tell you that means tomtom are legally liable for any faults with the product. It doesn't matter a hoot that parts of it originate from another party, and it doesn't matter a hoot if the faults are within the part supplied by another party. Tomtom took our money - which means they are responsible for supplying us with fixes to the bits that don't work properly.

I'm very surprised tomtom have got away with this for so long. It's a great product let down by poor maps. Reading between the lines I don't think it will be too long before tomtom wise up and go with a new map supplier.

It’s so refreshing to hear there are some sensible people out there.
You are absolutely correct. **Our Contract** is with Tomtom. Secondary Contract is with Teleatlas but that has nothing to do with us, so Tomtom don't hide behind Teleatlas like a big girl’s blouse.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Most reasonable people would know and accept that mapping data cannot be 100% because it takes time to produce the digital maps after gleaning the information - making it out of date once it is released. But what is unacceptable is errors that are still evident years after road changes have been made. And errors that people have reported to TomTom/Teleatlas still not being rectified from version to version of the software. It is a total copout for TomTom/Teleatlas to try and put the onus on the customer by telling them to notify them about the map errors. I know and accept that it should help the map accuracy process for users to let TomTom/Teleatlas know of errors, but that does not absolve TomTom/Teleatlas of their responsibility to produce a far better standard of accuracy of their mapping. It is after all a major part of the product. I have still not seen much contrition from TomTom for the mapping problems, their answer always seems to be that they provide the "most up to date maps available".

I do feel this is such a shame as the software (maps aside) itself is such a great product with a great GUI. I must confess that I have not had experience of any of the mapping errors reported on the forums, but I am concerned that if we do not do something about it, you or I may come across these errors ourselves. Come on TomTom (yes not Teleatlas, our seller/buyer contract is not with them) either pressurise Teleatlas to improve or go to someone else with better map data.

If Teleatlas can’t get it right and Navteq can “well goodbye Teleatlas and Hello Navteq”.

Stop using the Phrase it’s not me GOV its Teleatlas crap!!!

agreed ... if teleatlas can't get there finger out and sort these errors then TomTom will surely have to think about there customers and change there map supplier because i think its disgusting we should pay so much then end up with such shoddy maps .. TomTom is very much to blame if they dont do this..

if the maps are not sorted by the next release i will have to give up on TomTom .. shame as i do think TomTom is the best navigator.

I thought the guys @ Pocket Gps World would be interested with the message I sent Friday Evening to Tomtom (I will post the reply When I get it this week, so stay tune).

"Message sent to Tomtom"
If you have got it so right with the process then how is it that Standsted Airport J8 and Braintree Essex A120 and A130 to Basildon Essex are totally incorrect? Especially when I have already well into last year reported these errors to you and still nothing has been done about them.
"Strange" but not surprising.
Oh by the way check out

To see how happy your customers really are.
I will not be buying any more Tomtom products in the future and will convert others to do like wise.
Yours sadly A very unhappy Customer.

By the way if they do decide to read our comments then let them have it and see how unhappy we really have been since they have "TAKEN US ALL FOR A RIDE"

Well, I suppose the feed back from Tomtom wasn’t all that surprising to say the least.

From Tomtom:
Thank you very much for the feedback. A DIGITAL map error can occur just as these errors can occur on paper maps.

Our map data is supplied by the DIGITAL map provider Tele Atlas. You can report map errors/ommisions now on our website. Please go to the HOME Tab at the top of the webpage http://www.tomtom.com.

Choose UK English. Go into the SUPPORT Tab at the top of this page. Click MY TOMTOM on the left. Log into MY TOMTOM on our website. Once you have done this on the left click report map errors.

Unfortunately we are unable to correct existing maps errors.
The TomTom Customer Support Team

It would be nice if they said we are working on these issues and will be able to send updates asap. But I suppose this might hurt there profits margin with the Plus Services running "Street maps" where you pay for the maps to be corrected???
