|

Hi,
I have been using an Ipaq 3970 and TOMTOM3 with a Wired GlobalSat BR305 is a serial mouse GPS receiver for about 6 months now, with no problems at all.
I have recently changed the 3970 for an HP6340, but kept the rest of the equip the same. I installed the same version of tomtom but I could not see the GPS device.
I'm pretty sure that the old 3970 used to talk to the BR305 over COM1 but when I try this on the new h6340 it tells me "Com1 doesn't exist".
In the TomTom GPS control pannel I have "TomTom Navigator GPS" selected in the 1st drop down. In the next Drop down I have tried all options but none get me connected. The list consists of:
COM1: (Doesn't exist error)
Infrared Port: (Doesn't let me confirm with the tick)
COM9: (Doesn't let me confirm with the tick)
IrDA: (Doesn't let me confirm with the tick)
Serial Port COM2: (Doesn't let me confirm with the tick)
COM8: (get an hourglass wheel for about 1min then nothing, tickbox remains clear)
Serial on USB (lets me select and no errors, but no connection results)
Bluetooth Serial Port COM7: (Need to use wired)
Bluetooth Serial Port COM4: (Need to use wired)
I have tried Version 2.07, 3.1 and the new 3.3 versions of the drivers and also the h6340 fix for the Bluetooth port (just on the off chance). But none seem to help.
Is it becuase the h6340 uses a different comport that isn't exposed in these driver versions? and is there a way round this? Anyone else out there got an h6340 and is using a wired serial GPS??
Any other ideas?
Thanks for reading. |

As far as I know the 63xx don't have RS232 any more. You may be lucky with a USBSER converter, but that's not confirmed.
The connector is the same as on the 3970, but this doesn't mean all the pins are wired. _________________ Lutz

so does that likely mean that my Serial GPS is useless with this IPAQ?
where can I get one of these Serial to USB converters from? Has anyone else tried one of these with success? |

I have the same problem, just got a HOLUX GPSlim for my H6340 - can't connect on COM7, however, googling, I found someone that has it working, but they have a problem with TT3 hanging - so it can be done.... just wish someone would say how..... |
