It depends really what you're after, whether or not you want a compass that shows which way points North and whether you're looking to install Garmin MapSource mapping CD's ? |

To be honest, a Garmin eTrex will give you that. The Venture only has 1mb of memory so you wouldn't be able to expand and install MapSource CD's to it (neither would you on the eTrex), but if you wanted to put street maps on there aswell then the Vista would be a better model.
From a hiking perspective the Venture will support 20 routes and 50 waypoints per route, the eTrex will only support 1 route and 50 waypoints per route. Both GPS receivers have a trackback facility to help you if you get lost.
If you wanted a compass as well, then you would have to go up to the eTrex Vista for this.
GPS Warehouse (one of our sponsors) sells the Garmin eTrex for £114.49 and the Venture for £154.98. |

The Venture is the one for you.
Yo are in USA, I suppose?
You can get a Venture for around $150.
One large store was clearing it for less than $50 a while ago!
You can see the envy of friends this side of the Atlantic!
$150 is still a good buy. It has better features than the yellow eTrex, 1MB memory and higher resolution at least.
It also include a PC serial cable, which itself is worth the extra. _________________ Pc-Mobile
