After my inital excitement over TT5 I am starting to feel a little disappointed, especailly after finding out that the GB maps are hardly any different than before

Considering that I only bought my TT4 a few months back and don't really intend to use it in Europe, £50 for the few extra features and 'new maps' wasn't the best value for money.

I guess that if you want the Europe maps, then its a bargain, but if like me, they are 'nice to have' rather than something you want, the upgrade is a little disappointing.

Don't get me wrong.. The new features (i.e Itinary, Compass, distance to POIs) are very nice to have, but its not really fair that we have to pay for them.

What do other TT5 upgraders think?

Jon

So far the only major improvement I've found is the Itinerary function, which is handy if I'm planning a long ride out on the bike.

It seems a bit slow at coping with roundabouts in comparison to 4.4.

I find TT5 very slow at recalculating a route compared to TT4.4.

My Treo 650 is faster than my T3 at recalculating as well (both using TT5)

One spot that seems to have been updated is the A229/M2 junction.
I hope there are others!

The Lamberhurst bypass on the A21 is not on it - don't you just love going through fields at 70mph!

For me, the only feature worth noting is the fact that when you are on a route, you can now do 'Navigate Via -> Point of interest' and see which ones are actually closest to your route.

Before it just showed how far they are away from your current position "as the crow flies", so you had no idea how close they actually were.

But now when you hit the 'route' button, the one at the top is the one which is closest to your route.

For me this is a brilliant feature, but it wasn't worth the price I paid!

I agree with Tazfiend, the roundabout calculations are very slow compared to 4.40 and if you have a cluster of them in a short stretch of road in a city centre, can actually be a bit dangerous, especially when Jane goes into overload mode and tries to send you on a 360 degree turnround ! Oh well, there's always version 6 to 'improve' things !

So the maps are not much better than TTN4.4?

Can anyone tell me if the new M6 TOLL is on the new maps.

I haven't even got TTN5 yet but I'm feeling dissapointed.

I was using TT5 on my Treo 650, but gave up & went back to using my T3. TT5 is causing the Treo 650 to reset several times a day - I use it lots. I prefer viewing on the treo as the screen is much much brighter than the T3 screen albeit smaller.

TT5 does not yet do what it was supposed to to - answer calls & keep directions on screen, but no voice directions while on the phone.

Tom Tom assure me that an update is due soon which should overcome these problems.

With TT5 you can only activate one device, whereas with TT4.4 you could activate at least 2 devices. I had to get Tom Tom to give me another activation code so I could use my T3.
