|
|
I wish to delete some of the default POI categories that came installed on my TTG 300, but the "Delete POI Category" option is greyed out.
I want to make way for downloaded POIs as I only have 2Mb left on my SD.
Any Ideas? |

You cannot edit or delete the default POI sets provided. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You can delete ALL of the default POIs, but not the single sets. |

ISTR seeing a recent suggestion (was it from Lutz?) that you can delete all of the built-in POIs - but not individual categories. AIUI, they are held in a file called poi.dat - which is about 1.3 MB in size. If you're feeling brave, rename it to (say) poi.da$ and check whether everything else still works. If so, and if you don't want any of the built-in POIs, you could then delete the file.
I assume that you have already deleted all the voices you don't want? If not, do that first - it's a much safer way to recover some card space! _________________ Roger

I haven't deleted any voices, as I only have 2 as default. Other voices can be downloaded according to my TTG.
I will give renaming my poi.dat file a go and see how it goes |

Does deleting these mean you can have more than 40 of your own categories or is it just to get extra space on the SD card?

Are you sure? ISTR seeing claims to the contrary - but have no hard evidence. _________________ Roger

My apologies, yes you can delete the entire POI Set but not individual POI groups. But why would you want to, the POI data is a valuable part of the device? If space is the issue get a larger memory card, with 256MB SD cards at well under £20 it is not expensive. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I would like to delete it because...for example...I went on a 40 mile journey today, and the showed 2 petrol stations that weren't there and never have been in all the 30+ years i've been on those roads. |

In that case, it would be nice to be able to delete indiviual POIs - but you can't do that with the built-in categories. The only option is to delete all POIs in all built-in categories - which is a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater! _________________ Roger

This sounds like a worthwhile project for one of the experts here....
Using some of the devious cleverness that has produced the custom voices for speed alerts etc. could someone come up with a way of unbundling the built-in POI file, re-editing it to add or remove items, and then re-encode it back to the original file format?
Does anyone know if this sound feasible? |
