Hi
I have installed my upgrade of Tom Tom Nav5 to my xda2i and i activated it, since then i cannot get tom tom to talk to my bluetooth receiver and i have noticed the xda2i is not compatible with tom tom 5.
However i also have an imate jam which is compatible with Tom Tom5 and i have installed it on this machine but i need to activate it on this one.
I need to deregister my xda2i and register my imate jam, i emailed Tom Tom on sunday but have had no reply, can anyone help me out with some advice on this.
Thanks |

I appreciate the need to protect against software copying, but how does the activation code work?
I installed my upgrade last night with no problems, but if I get another pocket pc in the future am I not able to install on my new machine? |

don't think so mate.
it only allows u to have that product activation code on one machine at a time, so if i guess correctly if u have two pda's u have to buy another copy to have them both running on both machines. |

So I guess if you buy a new ppc in the future you will need to get the current ppc de-activated and then get a new code, all through TomTom. |

no, you will have to get tom tom to de-activate the activation code and then go to the activation screen with your existing product code from your software and then you will get a new activation code for your new ppc. |

Activation works by tying a product code to a device code.
You can activate 3 devices with one product code which will allow you to upgrade your PDA or install it on a replacement PDA. After you have activated the TomTom system prevents you activating for a varying period. It used to be 7 days and 180 days.
If you have a genuine reason to reactivate within these time limits then you can contact TT Support who can unlock the activation for bona-fide clients.
Bottom line is that if you are genuine you are OK. This is in place to stop the proliferation of pirated software. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply.
If you say i can activate 3 devices with one product code, why is it that when i enter the product code on www.ttcode.com it says that it's already activated and it lists the device code from my xda2i, my imate jam has a different device code and it won't let me enter that.
Will i have to wait the full seven days till i can enter the imate one.
Also i have the maps installed on an sd card will i have to delete them and re-install them again or can i just put the sd card into my imate jam.
Can you also recommend a good make of sd card to use for the maps.
Thanks |

Yes, you do have to wait for the full 7 or 180 days before it can be re-activated without intervention from TomTom Support.
I am not too sure what happens on the PDA with V5 activation. I think that it is held in the registry therefore you can use the same SD card as the activation is independent of the storeage medium. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Hi,
Did you just call 08451 610009?
I've called quite a few times today and it just beeps for about a 30 seconds then says all the support lines are busy, try later and chops me off every time.
I e-mailed them last night about resetting my activation and they have not replied yet.
