|

Hi,
I bought a TOMTOM GO 300 today, luckily I had already had a quick scan of this forum first as the first thing I did was backup the SD card, thank goodness!!!
The TOMTOM works perfectly and I am thrilled with it and put some hand POI's from this site onto it successfully.
However, the problem is that when I install the 5.1 software (the installation wizard completes sucessfully) the TOMTOM doesnt work! when I disconnect the USB and restart the TOMTOM, all I get is the animation showing an incorrect or faulty memory card. If I format the card and stick the backed up files back onto it, TOMTOM works perfectly again!
Is there something incredibly stupid I am doing/not doing?
Thanks
Johnny |

forgot to mention that even thogh TOMTOM tells me the memory card is incorrect/wrong, if I put it in the memory card reader I have, it shows all the files present and correct, and the card is even represented by the TOMTOM icon! |

Could it be that your SD card is full?
Try deleting some of the voices and see if that helps, most people just leave Tim and Jane.
The original card with the TTG300 is only 128MB and is soon full. |

I don't think so because I have fully formatted the card, put the default v5.0 files back, then upgraded and still get the same animation that shows a big red cross through the memory card.

If you put the v5.0 files and nothing else onto the SD card, does it work?
If it does try deleting the voices leaving Tim and Jane (you can always re-install them from the CD later) then install v5.10 see if that works |

Success, I deleted jane and friend and still no joy. But I tried repeatedly to install and finally after the 4th attempt it worked.
What I hadnt noticed before was that when installing the update, the progress bar only showed a slight amount of progress, but would then flash up showing 'installation succesfull'. With each attempted installation the progress bar moved a bit further right until it finally worked properly and TOMTOM loaded with 5.1!!
How weird is that!!??! |

As long as it's all sorted that's all that matters
Now it's time to embark on the speed cameras |

Probably your Windows(tm) did you the "favor" to delay the write request, like it does frequently when writing to "slow" devices. The application is not aware that the "write successful" returned by the operating system does not indicate that the data already got written to the device. It's just a hint, that Windows(tm) did accept the data for delievery. If you simply pull off the cable, you end up with a corrupt file. Always "eject" the virtual drive from Windows(tm) before plugging off any USB device. |
