|
|
Hi,
Anyone else noticed that when you leave TTN5 it turns off Bluetooth on a PocketPC? It happens regardless of whether Bluetooth is on or off when TTN5 is started, it always gets turned off on exit. At least on my HP 2210.
This is reminiscent of the way that TTN3 hogs the GPS and makes it inconvenient to use other applications when not navigating. For example, Internet Explorer does not enable Bluetooth, it will just fail to make a connection, so you have an additional step to enable Bluetooth.
Is this a bug or by design? I suspect it's a "feature", but an annoying one at that.

The option to disable TomTom switching the BT on and off would have been nice.
Its a real pain in the arse. _________________ Garmin Edge 800 (cycling)

there is a post that to stop the bt turning off you have to clear the route before exiting - this was on a 4700.
this doesn't work on my dell x50v

I actually like the idea of TomTom switching off the BT when exiting, but i can see the point that some people may not want this so an option to disable that functionaility would be nice. Why didn't they also include the option to start bluetooth when loading, that would be extremely useful.
Something for the TomTom 5.1 update me thinks! |

BT does start automatically when tomtom starts (at least it does for me) - which is why I guess it dies when tomtom stops.
Why it can't just revert back to the position when it opens is beyond me. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

so lets clear this up.....
on a dell v50v it turns on bt automatically but regardless of clearing route etc it always clears the bt setting on exit.
on a HP4700 it doesn't turn it on automatically but can leave it on with the right settings on exit.
I think this highlights the problems faced by developers when they produce software for a wide variety of devices.

If you change the settings to a generic GPS and put it on COM8 it works and does not turn the bluetooth on and off. |

That's wrong:
On a 4700 it turns it on when you enter tomtom (if it isn't on already), and it turns it off when you exit (if you don't remove tomtom's bluetooth manager).

Nick. |

the com port is different on different ppc's
on my hp2210 I had to use com 8, on the dell I have to use com 7 - this is the incoming bt serial port.
So if I use com 8 it may or maynot turn off bt but it definately won't connect!

I have also noticed that when it is set to TT Bluetooth and you exit the program it does not cleanly exit, it turns the bluetooth off before disconnecting which confuses the bluetooth unit and can cause it to reset/cold start. |

If you don't want bluetooth to turn on/off itself, just remove the Bluetooth support utility TomTom installed for you.
If you experience problem afterwards, select a different GPS unit (other wired NEMA GPS) and choose the correct baud rate and your bluetooth port to the gps.
If you experience a freeze/halt when you exit the program (30sec - 5min), it's a known problem for TTN2004/4.4/5 in many VGA devices. I really wish they have fixed it. |

I hav ea 4700 and use GPSGate, which circumvents this problem completely. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |
