|
|
Hi y'all.
Anyone know if the new Navigator 5 program will be available as a standalone software package? I have Navi 3 already but it's only a, errrm, 'temporary' copy as I was reluctant to buy it when I knew a new version was due to be released. (I subsequently found out I would have been eligible for an upgrade but hey-ho, you lives and learns eh?)
I therefore have a complete setup with an Ipaq 2210, GPS receiver & car cradle etc so just want to purchase the new software. Will I be ale to do this as everywhere I've seen that will stock it only has the package with a Bluetooth unit, car charger etc? By the way, awesome website you've got here chaps, I've bought all my kit following reviews on here & had no probs whatsoever!
Cheers for any advice.
Ozzy. |

Skids,
I understand your frustration, but I really think you should stop trying to ram your own opinions down everyones throat about TomTom 5, as another member stated in one of your many posts "maybe some of the issues you are having are hardware related"
Why don't you sit back and take a deep breath and maybe many of your problems can be resolved by using these excellent forums.

Hi,
I've just received my copy from gpsforless. They received product on Wednesday I believe.
No map cd's included. The software comes on an SD card.
I didn't get a box with mine (Apart from the little silver box with the SD card), just all the bits in a bag. All seals intact though. I assume gpsforless do this to save on shipping costs
Just registered for the free plus trial. Nice you can receive traffic info etc through a normal internet connection. |

This sounds a little but worrying. I have just ordered TTN5 per installed on an SD card from GPSFORLESS. As their website stated that there is a CD in the box I will expect both and I will not be happy if I just receive an SD card in a bag. I suspect I may have to send this right back and wait until other stores have full retail product.
Kind regards

There is a CD in the retail box. However, it only has the manuals and some extra voice on it. It does not contain the map files - everything you need is pre-loaded on the SD card and the CD isn't really needed until you get told to RTFM :D |

this looks to be incredibly poor value compared to the upgrade.
£100 for 1 128mb sd card (value blank £10 max), no major routes of europe, no maps on cd, no backup if the sd card gets wiped/lost/breaks - it is likely to get lost as you will have to pull it from the device to access your normal card.
£46 for the upgrade - all maps of europe to street level plus MRE plus backup cd's.
add a 1GB sd card for £53 and it's still cheaper.
Not sure why tomtomwent this route - not include maps on the cd is just plain STUPID from a future support point of view - Viamichelin include a fast start sd card plus cd's for the maps - a far more sensible solution.

You can transfer the files to your 1gb card and install from there. This way you can keep the original in a draw as a backup. I also backed it up to two hard drives :D

Do you have to have all the european maps on a prior version of TT to be able to upgrade for that price? |

No full maps of europe come even if you only had uk tomtom 3.
the difference in pricing is just looks completely out of wack.
(and MRE came as standard with ttn3 uk)

I think this is a bit of a sweetner for existing TT users to compensate for the most usefull options they have removed that were available in Version 3 _________________ Graham.
