I have heard that Tom Tom 5 has problems if you have a keyboard (ie XDAIIs or Blue Angel) in that it doesnt display an on screen keyboard and the keyboard on the XDAIIs doesnt work properly - any comments???
...and more importantly, how to fix. |

Try the following solution:
Edit the register with a third part program and in register of PDA..
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell
Change..
HasKeyboard value from 1 to 0
or if U haven't that one U have to add
"HasKeyboard" with value "0".
It works!
Bye. |

Thanks for the reply, but I believe that only works with version 4. |

Hi,
I can confirm the TT5 / MDAIII (BlueAngel) Keyboard problem - I have no onscreen keyboard other than the one that allows me to select the "house no" of the destination address. I've tried all the combinations of keyboard size and layout from the options menu, all to no avail.
To add to the irritation, the hardware keyboard cannot be used to enter numbers - pressing the LOCK/FN button thats used to access the embeded numeric keypad generates an accented letter "n" and the text entry box won't allow editing, other than deleting the last character.
I tried Trombazucche's registry hack and that didn't help either.
The weird thing is I'm sure I had an onscreen keyboard during the initail install from SD card, when I was asked to enter my home address.
tomtom.com also seems to be down at the moment too. *sigh* all in all my first few hours with TT5 have not been very successful. |

You would think such a basic thing would be tested, concidering TomTom quote the XDAIIs as being compatible.
Lets hope by the time my software arrives there is an update/hack for it, but im not holding my breath.
Are you managing to enter what you want or is it totally unusable? _________________ Alan N Preece |

I'm using the built in keyboard for town and street names, but not having any numeric input makes the postcode entry impossible.
I've yet to go through the CD based manual yet, but I'm wondering if I can use the (alleged) PIM integration to work around the problem - enter my destination into the PIM and then use that as a "navigate to" source. Of course that relies on TT talking to Pocket Informant rather than Pocket Outlook.
I guess the old addage "never install the .0 version of any software" still hold true. |

I have TT5 with a pda/phone s100. After installation no keyboard; after register modification, adding the value, keyboard appears.
Bye. |

Im glad it works for you, Tom Tom have made a mess of this.
The S100 is different to what I was talking about - The XDAIIs, as it has a built in keyboard, and obviously the setup within it is different. _________________ Alan N Preece |

FYI, I've contacted TT about this and they have no immediate plans to change/fix anything regarding this
I also looked through the registry, but couldn't make any changes that would fix the problem. _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

After using it for a day or two I find the problem workable, the only real problem will be if you have any numbers in the address (not including the house number as this does display an on screen keyboard). Postcode entry works if you enter them through the postcode section and not the standard address system.
The only thing is, in a perfect situation is that even though I have the slide out keyboard I would still prefer to use an on screen version because I dont really want to keep taking the phone out of the cars handsfree cradle just to slide the keyboard out. _________________ Alan N Preece |

You might find you need to copy your 'ZIP' folder onto your root PDA directory as well as the SD card to do this though... 8meg of wasted memory though _________________ TomTom 6 - SPV M5000 and WM6

Yes, I have read about that and I copied it to the SD card and it works OK from there, thanks. _________________ Alan N Preece |

Where is this ZIP folder? I can't see it anywhere on my device? |
