hi folks,
i`m wondering if there`s an update for the medion mdpna100, i purchased this from halfords a while ago, the system`s great but i`ve noticed that the new medion from aldi (on sale this week) has 3D maps. Does anyone know if I`m able to upgrade mine in anyway.
thanks and keep smiling :D

The 3D live mapping is there. When you show the map you'll see a 3D button in the top left. Well, depends on the software in use. I recently purchased an MD95025 and it has the Medion-Navigator 4.4 software.

I've tried with the 3D map representation, but I think it's more for show. On the normal map view at least I get to see street names.

I think the 3D view is for people who want to see what's ahead of them and just listen to the voice prompts. A gimmic really. I prefer the normal map view.

It's quite impressive to be travelling along a road and to know the structure of the streets to the left and right and when out of view.

You don't actually have to invoke the navigataion function to use the MD95025. Sometimes I just put it on to show the map and let it follow me on the map.

Interesting. Here is an example map display from the v4.4 software.

I've not got an example of the 3D display because I grapped the PPC's screen while in the house and could not be bothered setting it up.

It's all down to prefererence. In my case I don't use the 3D option.

There is something that worries me a little. Medion has nothing on their support site for the MD95025. I've been in touch with Navigon and Navidon's support department informs me that I should really be getting any updates from Medion and not from Navigon. the reply reads . . .

Quote:
Thanks for your comments on our software. The software manufactured for Medion is not the same ad the one being sold from Navigon directly. It is a modified edition, therefor updates will have to be inquired from Medion.

With kind regards

So, it's a modified version and updates will have to be got from Medion. That's what the message boils down to.

Navigon answered my e-mailed questions within a few hours. About four days later I'm still waiting for Medion to reply to a few messages I have sent. Yes, they have a 0870 support number, but it still turns out to be expensive because you are usually kept on hold for a while.

A worrying situation . . .

Well, if you get a reply then please post your experience in this thread. Maybe it'll help put some light on how to get better support on the Item.

In all honesty, I'm sort of wishing that I didn't buy the MD95025. The one good thing about this PPC is that it's got a standard GPS built into it that sits on `COM1:` so I suspect any mobile navigation application will work on it, as long as the PPC is fast enough and the total of 55Mb (minus RAM disk) is enough for the navigation application.

From what I've determined, the software is from Navigon and Navigon's application could possibly work, but why would Navigon suggest that I go to MEdion for updates and stuff and not to them?

Ya see, what peeves me of is that the PPC part of the unit would cost about £140 (best educated guess) so all the software makes up about £209. So, Navigon will rwlwase V5 of their navigation software and here is where I get annoyed. I purchase the unit, wish an upgrade to the software, not really used it anough and have to pay out again. What it should really happen is that (being fair to Medion) navigation software upgrades should be free from the first year from the time of purchase.

As to cartography? Maybe reduced cost for the first year and then as per normal thereafter?

Still, on Medion's site there is NOTHING regarding support information for the MD95025.

Worrying . . . Sad

I think that if you trade in your old Medion GPS maps on Navigon web site you can get the latest version 5 for one country only for about 49.00 €

I'll let Navigon explain.

Dear Myron,

thanks for your interest in NAVIGON and NAVIGON products.
Currently we only offer upgrades to MN5 and MN5 software for PDAs, not PNAs.
In general, NAVIGON software MN|5 is not compatible with Medion PNA Hardware, an upgrade from Medion Navigator 4.4 (PNA) to MobileNavigator MN5 (PNA) will not be possible.

We regret not to be able to assist you further with your request so far.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further information.

Best regards
Cathleen Wrana

Dear Myron,

thank you for your email.

The Medion PNA 100 is not compatible with our software.

You would have to wait until Medion comes out with an update for your device.

With kind regards
